Job Description
KNBN Newscenter1, the NBC station in Rapid City, SD, provides quality broadcasting to all of western South Dakota, and portions of northeastern Wyoming and southeastern Montana. They are an award-winning station, taking home a Meteorologist of the Year award from the Wyoming Broadcasters Association in 2025. KNBN is part of Forum Communications Company, a 5th-generation family-owned media company, and produces over 16 hours of local news, weather, and sports content each week, making them an emerging news powerhouse in the state of South Dakota!
Rapid City is a growing community nestled in the heart of South Dakota's stunning Black Hills. It's an outdoor lover's dream, with iconic attractions and majestic national parks all within an hour's drive, including Mount Rushmore, Badlands National Park, Custer State Park, Black Hills National Forest, and Wind Cave National Park. Beyond the scenic views, the region offers some of the nation's largest free-ranging bison herds, endless hiking and ATV trails, and year-round adventure with skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing in the winter months.
Job Summary:
As a News/Sports MMJ, you will be responsible for writing stories, conducting interviews, shooting video and editing stories for our newscasts. You will do live reporting, covering breaking news and sports stories as they happen. You will anchor our weekend sportscasts and fill-in anchor for both sports and news. The successful candidate will have exceptional writing, communication and organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONSAnchor and produce sport segments during the Saturday and Sunday newscast.
Report on a variety of news and sports stories, including high school and college sports, and other outdoor sporting events, developing unique content to drive audience engagement. Shoot and edit video, and edit stories for newscasts. Write news and sports scripts for broadcast and digital platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS
Journalism, communications, or a related field degree is desired, though equivalent experience will be considered. Videography and video editing experience is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Must be creative, hardworking and a self-starter.
Must possess a valid driver's license and a driving record that is insurable by the company. Must carry an acceptable level of vehicle insurance as required by the company.
