ZUMIX empowers young people to build successful futures for themselves, transforming lives and community through music, technology, and creative employment. Since 1991, ZUMIX has offered award winning music and creative media programs for youth in the Greater Boston area ages 7-18. We have grown from a kitchen table project, to serving 1,000 young people annually through out-of-school programing, as well as in-school arts expansion initiatives. Creative Curator Reports to: Events Coordinator ​ ZUMIX seeks a committed, organized, and personable individual to join our team in support of coordinating the 35th year anniversary show at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade. The Esplanade Groundbeat Series, in coordination with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), is an opportunity to highlight our 35 years of leadership in the City of Boston in organizational relationship building, youth development, teaching artistry and the cultivation of a distinct Bostonian cultural voice. This role will ensure smooth coordination with the 35th Anniversary Planning Committee, programs and ensemble leaders to coordinate a three hour showcase at the Hatch Shell on May 31st, 2026. Responsibilities Programming & Creative Direction

• ​ Collaborate with program staff to shape the overall programming for the event
• ​ Work with ZUMIX staff and teaching artists to develop a show flow that includes alumni, current ensembles/programs and current/past teaching artists
• ​ Highlight ZUMIX's 35 year history of youth development throughout the event through creative storytelling on and off stage.
• ​ Coordinate with program leads to develop and finalize a clear "run of show" document
• ​ Maintain day-of communication with key leads including sound and video teams, ensembles, artists and teaching artists​ Community Partners & Interactive Elements
• ​ Coordinate with the 35th Anniversary Planning Committee to identify and invite community partners to participate
• ​ Support the creation of partner documentation including invitations, information packets, and tabling guidelines
• ​ Work with partners and staff to develop tabling experiences and interactive elements (e.g., face painting, A Trike Called Funk, etc.)
• ​ Collaborate with the Esplanade Association Programs + Partnerships Manager to help shape the layout and thematic flow of partner tables and activities on the grounds Communication & Planning
• ​ Participate in 2-3 planning meetings with the Program Leadership Team to coordinate programming and updates
• ​ Attend 1 meeting with the 35th Anniversary Planning Committee to support coordination with community partners and collaborators Qualifications
• ​ Show production experience
• ​ Knowledge of and relationships with multiple ZUMIX programs and ensembles
• ​ Ability to dedicate 2-3 hours a week for 8 weeks (2 weeks planning, 6 weeks preparation)
• ​ Ability to dedicate 8 hours for both dress rehearsal and show (total 16 hours)
• ​ Ability to attend the full dress rehearsal (date TBD) and the main event on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
• ​ Self-starter, bringing a positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a dynamic team.
• ​ Strong love of music with a commitment to creative youth development, connection to the East Boston community, and demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission and values of ZUMIX.

Compensation and Hours 8 hours -

Dress Rehearsal:

Participation in and coordination of the event dress rehearsal with performers and the production team.

Compensation:

$30/hour 8 hours - Event Day (May 31): On-site coordination and communication during the performance, supporting performers, staff, and production partners.

Compensation:

$30/hour Up to 15 hours -

Planning & Coordination:

Administrative coordination including planning meetings, communication with collaborators, promotional support, and preparation of run-of-show materials.

Compensation:

$30/hour Final scheduling and allocation of hours will be coordinated with the ZUMIX team in the weeks leading up to the performance.
