The Department oversees a broad range of New Mexico's arts and cultural heritage agencies. These include 15 divisions representing a variety of programs and services. Why does the job exist? This position exists to support the internal operations of the Performing Arts Division of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. The position is designed for supporting across three theaters inside the division and being part of a crew within the PA team. How does it get done? Must design and hang specialized lighting plots to work with a variety of lighting software programs. Oversee budgets established for lighting equipment and supplies, costing out and ordering equipment and materials. Flexibility, creativity, and the ability to deal calmly and effectively with unforeseen circumstances are critical to this position Must oversee, operate, and maintain all lighting systems and equipment in Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts (REDCPA) venues, including lighting instruments, intelligent lighting instruments, computerized lighting boards, and dimmers, and service as necessary. Knowing the process of lighting equipment maintenance and repair. perform regular safety checks on all lighting systems and equipment, to include all lighting positions, circuitry, and dimming modules, in REDCPA venues. Identify, schedule, and provide appropriate professional safety training for self and any other personnel (crew of touring shows, contracted personnel) who will be operating REDCPA lighting systems and equipment. Ensure that all personnel involved in lighting design and/or operation adhere to applicable safety standards Ensure that all safety issues relating to use of the stage/backstage areas of a theatre facility in general, and use of lighting systems and equipment in particular, are addressed and monitored on an ongoing basis. This includes conducting regular safety testing of all lighting systems and equipment; providing safety training as needed for NHCC technical theatre staff; identifying a pool of contractual personnel who also have had the necessary training; ensuring that both NHCC staff and renters of REDCPA venues use only contractual personnel who have been appropriately trained; and constantly monitoring and overseeing the use of lighting systems and equipment by both staff and contractual employees to ensure that all safety requirements are being met. The ability to adhere to safety standards and maintain a safe work environment under deadline pressure and other types of stress is essential which also includes supervision of contracted lighting personal. Who are the customers? The Performing Arts Set and Exhibit Designer supports a range of clients including partners, performers, patrons, and renters as well as the internal customers of NHCC leadership, the Performing Arts team, and other NHCC departments including Visual Arts and the NHCC Box Office. Minimum Qualification High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in exhibition design and fabrication or working with museum artifacts/collections. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Working Conditions This job is a combination of office setting work and theatre tasks. Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time (over one (1) hour), perform repetitive tasks such as reaching and bending, and lift over 50 lbs.
