The Assistant Properties Director is responsible for assisting the Properties Director in the budgeting, and procurement of all props and set decoration for Milwaukee Rep productions and events. They will assist the Properties Director in the maintenance of department financial records, inventories, and record keeping as well as managing all properties rentals. Other duties include assisting in the preparation of budget documents, cost estimates, prop research, and material ordering.
Major Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Work with the Properties Director to create and monitor progress on the day-to-day list of priorities for each production•Assist the Properties Director in developing and maintaining departmental paperwork including but not limited to budgeting, invoicing, shipping, calendars, production records Participate in prop materials and equipment purchasing, research online and local acquisition Receive, review and respond to Production Notes provided by Stage Management Assist in the scheduling of personnel and resources for all builds, load-ins, strikes and work calls Assist in the inventory, storage and database management of departmental stock and materials for internal use and external rentals Manage the logistics of all external prop rentals Work with designers and directors to make cost effective design choices Communicate regularly with the Properties Director and other Prop Staff members to coordinate departmental efforts in the production of props, set decoration and decorative elements for all productions and events Maintain communication with other production area heads regarding cross-departmental projects Receive and distribute prop notes during rehearsal and tech of all productions Participate in all load-ins, technical rehearsals, strikes and work calls as required by Properties Director Maintain a clean and safe work area Attend regular shop and company meetings Participate in Curtain Call Ball and educational and outreach events as needed Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience College degree preferred, but not required. 3 years' experience with increasing responsibility at a professional theatre with proven leadership ability Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The ideal candidate will have properties experience in at least two of the following areas: Woodworking, furniture building and repair, and metal working Soft goods, sewing skills, upholstery Casting and molding, sculpting, and carving Experience with small motors, mechanisms and electronics Scenic painting and finishing techniques Graphics and ephemera In addition to: Capacity to solve problems and engage in creative thinking about challenges individually and in a group environment, while being able to accept and incorporate feedback. Knowledge of the artistic process and excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and diplomacy skills Ability to read and interpret working technical drawings Working knowledge of decorative history and period styles. Well-developed communication, organization, and research skills. Aptitude and eagerness to learn new skills and processes when necessary Ability to operate company vehicles including 26' box trucks. Must have a valid drivers' license and be approved by the Theatres insurance company. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including database implementation and management Ability to work in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
