The team currently has one technical writer and is looking to add a second due to increased workload and business growth. This is a long-term contract opportunity , with potential for conversion to a full-time role in the future. The Technical Writer will create clear, user-focused documentation for internal web applications and Power BI dashboards, translating technical concepts into easy-to-understand content for non-technical end users. This is considered an entry-level role , ideal for candidates with 1-3 years of professional experience. Candidates with bachelor level education in technical writing or communications are also strongly encouraged to apply. Position Overview As part of the Power Delivery Data Analytics team , the Communication and Documentation Specialist plays a multifunctional role focused on internal communications and technical documentation. This position supports existing documentation and communications initiatives across analytics and application development projects. Key Responsibilities Compose and review technical documentation and user guides for internal software applications and analytics dashboards Maintain and update existing articles and knowledge base content ahead of software fix or version releases Support the development of PowerPoint presentations and video content for multiple audiences, showcasing new applications, enhancements, and benefits Research and synthesize user feedback to improve content effectiveness and usability Draft clear, concise emails and newsletters to communicate updates, changes, and announcements related to technical projects Support SharePoint site maintenance and content development, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency Translate complex technical concepts into succinct one-pagers for executive and leadership audiences Required Qualifications 1-3 years of experience in technical writing, specifically focused on end-user documentation, or a related field 1-3 years of experience creating engaging written communications Strong understanding of language and grammar principles (APA and MLA styles) Familiarity with data analytics concepts, Power BI, and application development Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and organizational levels Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and SharePoint Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications, Computer Science, Journalism, or a related field Familiarity with standard UX/UI principles Experience with video editing tools such as Camtasia, Premiere Pro, and After Effects Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using Camtasia for video editing is a strong plus Work Environment Candidates must be willing and able to work onsite in downtown Birmingham at least four days per week The schedule may transition to five days onsite , so flexibility is required Business Need / Customer Impact This team is expanding rapidly and serving an increasing number of internal end users. Adding an additional Technical Writer is essential to scale communication efforts, ensure consistent documentation, and support adoption of analytics tools and applications. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
