Job Title:
Technical Writer Job Description This position requires a self-reliant, highly motivated person capable of working both independently and with a team. You must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment in an organized, accurate, and efficient manner, delivering results with minimal oversight. This role bridges the gap between engineering, production staff, and quality assurance to ensure that manufacturing processes and product specifications are documented accurately, conform to regulations, and are easily understood by users. Responsibilities Create and revise work instructions: Research, create, update, and manage clear, concise documentation that outlines production procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards. Develop, format, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other general support actions.Information gathering:
Interview engineers, production personnel, and operators to gather technical information, capture photos, and observe processes on the manufacturing floor.Visual enhancements:
Incorporate photographs, diagrams, and illustrations to make instructions easier to understand.Quality assurance:
Review documents for clarity, usability, and technical accuracy; respond to feedback to continuously improve documentation.Safety and compliance:
Ensure all documented procedures meet safety requirements and quality standards.Document control:
Maintain version control, assist with document approval workflow, and ensure documentation complies with industry standards. Essential Skills 5+ years of experience in technical writing with GDP, preferably in a manufacturing, engineering, or GMP environment. Bachelor's degree in English, Engineering, Technical Communication, or a related field.Technical writing skills:
Ability to translate complex technical jargon into simple, actionable, step-by-step instructions. Experience writing from engineering drawings, schematics, and BOMs is a plus. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and document control systems (e.g., Propel, Salesforce). Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams, including engineers and shop floor operators. Meticulous attention to detail ensuring accuracy in high-stakes documentation, with good grammar, punctuation, spelling, and strong formatting consistency. Additional Skills & Qualifications Proactive learner: Ability to quickly understand complex electrical, hardware, assembly, and calibration processes.Analytical thinking:
Ability to evaluate information from multiple sources and resolve conflicting data.Independence:
Capable of working with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. Experience working in electronics manufacturing environments. Basic understanding of electrical principles. Work Environment This is a hybrid role based in Alameda, requiring occasional onsite presence to ensure familiarity with products and the team. The position involves working in a manufacturing environment, collaborating closely with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Alameda, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
