Job Description
The Content Strategist & Writer is responsible for bringing the YMCA's mission to life through powerful storytelling and engaging content across digital platforms. This role focuses on content creation, social media, and campaign development, with an emphasis on capturing authentic stories from members, staff, and the community. This position works closely with marketing leadership and the videographer to create compelling narratives that drive engagement, strengthen brand awareness, and support membership and fundraising goals. Qualifications:
KNOW HOW/QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field is required (or equivalent experience). Three to four (3-4) years of experience in storytelling, writing, and content creation; nonprofit or community-focused experience preferred Exceptional writing, storytelling, editing, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail Portfolio of relevant work required Strong understanding of social media platform audience (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok) and best practices for posts, stories, and short-form video Demonstrated ability to identify and implement current social media trends in an authentic and brand-aligned way Proficiency in Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite and familiarity with social media scheduling tools (e.g., Loomly) Ability to storyboard, plan, and direct video content Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Strong project management, creative thinking, problem-solving, and conceptual skills Self-starter with creative thinking and the ability to work both independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and build relationships in the community Passion for storytelling that reflects diverse experience and fosters a sense of belonging Team-oriented with a strong commitment to the YMCA's mission, community impact, and member experiencePHYSICAL DEMANDS
