Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and professional Gun Writer/Ammo Writer to join our team at Lock Stock & Barrel Auctions, a leading firearms auction house. The successful candidate will be responsible for composing accurate, technically sound, and engaging descriptions of firearms offered for sale. Each write-up will combine a thorough technical evaluation, historical context when applicable, and an honest condition report based on company standards. This role requires deep knowledge of firearms, excellent research skills, and the ability to write in a consistent, professional tone that reflects the standards and reputation of our company. Responsibilities Conduct in-depth technical and historical research on a wide range of firearms. Write clear, accurate, and engaging descriptions for each firearm to be featured in auction catalogs and online listings. Assess and document the condition of firearms in accordance with established company grading standards and terminology. Collaborate with photography, cataloging, and warehouse teams to ensure accuracy and completeness of information. Follow internal writing guidelines, tone, and formatting expectations to ensure consistency across all listings. Meet production deadlines and maintain a steady flow of high-quality write-ups. Revise content as necessary based on feedback from senior staff or compliance teams. Stay informed of trends, terminology, and current events in the firearms industry. Skills Background in museum studies, history, military studies, or a related field. Experience using company computer platforms and basic photo management tools Prior cataloging or auction house experience. Familiarity with ATF regulations and legal terminology related to firearms.
Working Conditions:
Primarily office-based or remote, depending on company policy
Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive salary based on experience. Paid time off and holidays. Employee discounts and professional development opportunities. Safe handling of firearms is required; proper safety training and protocols must be followed. May require lifting of items up to 30 lbs and standing for extended periods during catalog prep phases.
