Job Description
Detention Officer / Corrections Officer The Caldwell County Detention Center is accepting applications for the position of Detention Officer. This position is responsible for the custody, supervision, security, and daily management of detainees housed within the county detention facility. Detention Officers play an important role in maintaining order, safety, and accountability inside the facility. No two shifts are exactly alike, and staff must be prepared to handle a wide range of situations while working as part of a professional team environment. Prior corrections, military, security, or law enforcement experience is helpful but not required. Paid training is provided for all new employees. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Supervise detainees during housing, movement, recreation, meals, and daily activities Conduct routine security checks and facility inspections Monitor detainee behavior and address rule violations or safety concerns Process detainees during booking, intake, release, and transportation operations Complete reports, logs, and incident documentation accurately and professionally Assist with medication pass procedures in accordance with facility policy Distribute meals, linens, uniforms, and hygiene supplies Maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards throughout assigned areas Respond to emergencies, disturbances, medical situations, and other critical incidents Operate control systems, radios, security doors, and detention equipment Follow facility policies, procedures, and chain of command at all times Minimum Qualifications At least 18 years of age High school diploma or GED equivalent Valid driver's license Ability to pass a background investigation Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required Ability to remain calm, alert, and professional in stressful situations Work Environment This is a hands-on public safety position inside a secure correctional facility. Officers must be able to communicate effectively, make sound decisions under pressure, and maintain awareness of their surroundings at all times. The position may involve exposure to hostile behavior, verbal abuse, bodily fluids, and physically demanding situations. Professionalism, consistency, and teamwork are essential to success in this role. Schedule and Benefits 12-hour shifts
Day Shift:
7:00 AM - 7:00PM Night Shift:
7:00 PM - 7:00 AM Rotating schedule providing a three-day weekend every other week.Benefits include:
