Full-time Position Summary:
The Development Director is responsible for all aspects of Hui No'eau's fundraising efforts, including the direct solicitation of individual, corporate, and foundation gifts as well as the planning and management of cultivation and fundraising activities/events. The Development Director raises funds for the visual arts center through a variety of means, including membership campaigns, grant writing and management, donor cultivation (individuals and foundations), and various giving campaigns (restricted, major, annual appeal, and capital giving). The position develops, implements, and monitors a comprehensive fundraising plan to expand philanthropic support of the organization- including identifying and strengthening relationships with community stakeholders, actively pursuing and managing foundation, government, and individual leads, fostering strong donor and sponsor stewardship, and seeking, applying for, and managing grant funding.
Responsibilities and Functions:
This position will be responsible for, but is not limited to, the following:Grantsmanship:
Strategizes for and oversees grantsmanship, including the writing and preparation of grant proposals, grant budgets, and grant reporting, ensuring all deadlines and budgets are met. Grants support Hui No'eau's various arts education programs as well as preservation efforts on the 25-acre Kaluanui estate.Annual Fund:
Strategizes for and oversees the campaign, including direct mail, one-on-one solicitations, donor cultivation/stewardship, and prospect research/identificationGovernment Relations:
Cultivates relationships and organizes participation while managing government grantsMembership Program:
Strategizes for and oversees the Hui's membership program, including communications and advancement of the programSpecial Events:
Plans and manages ticket sales, event sponsorship, and donor relations for Hui fundraising and exhibitions events and activities (including gala fundraiser Art Affair), and provides staff support for the actual eventsCommunication and Record Keeping:
Maintains accurate database records of members & donors, member & donor history, and prospects; writes acknowledgment letters and thank you notes, communicates with members & donors, creates development reports as needed, maintains and monitors Grant calendar to ensure that all proposals and reports meet deadlines and goals are met, and produces annual giving campaign, as well as auxiliary donor marketing, promotional and outreach materials in collaboration with theHui's Marketing Coordinator Legacy Giving:
Develop and implement a comprehensive legacy giving (planned giving) strategy, including identification, cultivation, and stewardship of prospective donors, to build a sustainable pipeline of future philanthropic support aligned with the organization's long-term mission and financial goals.Board of Directors:
Is a liaison with the Board's Development Committee, facilitates Board involvement in solicitations, attends Board meetings, and manages Board givingDonor Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship:
Conducts research and identifies potential prospects and new funding sources; engages in direct personal solicitation of prospects, provides timely and engaging donor communications; helps coordinate, attend and create a meaningful event experience for donors, including but not limited to fundraising and cultivation events such as Art Affair, President's Reception, and other cultivation parties; inspires philanthropic giving amongst supporters, volunteers, and staff through strategic communication and a personal approach; networking at selected community and leadership events, speak on behalf of organization with media outlets as neededExhibition Sponsorship:
Cultivate and secure exhibition sponsorships by identifying prospective corporate and individual partners, developing compelling sponsorship proposals, and managing relationships to generate revenue while enhancing visibility and community engagement.Work Context:

Physical Environment:
Indoor office setting Driving outdoor motor vehicle required- Long periods of time sitting each work day
Schedule:
40hrs per week: Monday- Friday with a few required weekends and evenings
Skills & Knowledge:
- A Bachelor's degree (with a graduate or professional degree desired)
- At least 5 years of experience in non-profit work, including fundraising with an emphasis on major gifts, grant writing, legacy giving, special events, and database management
- Excellent personal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to tell compelling stories to generate support
- Customer service, communication, and record keeping experience
- Able to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines
- Solid organizational, time management, and project management skills
- Self-motivation and an ability to work independently
- Strong ability to collaborate with others from diverse backgrounds and work as a team
- Able to establish rapport and build on relationships to promote the mission of Hui No'eau
- Previous experience with an arts organization and knowledge of arts philanthropy is ideal, as is a strong interest in and passion for the visual arts and its inherent value in society.
- Overall computer literacy and proficiency, including but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Word; ability to learn other software programs, such as the Hui's student and donor database.
