Die Helper Job Description Job Summary:
Works under the direction of the Die Corrector and general supervision of the Die Shop Manager. Performs a host of duties associated with the cleaning, inspection and maintenance of dies used in the production of aluminum extrusion.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Ensure that all dies and tooling are cooled to below 300 degrees prior to being placed in the caustic tank to avoid thermal shock to tooling and splashing of hot caustic and die breaking. Inserts cooled dies and extrusion tooling into caustic tank using electric chain hoist. Periodically checks on status of aluminum removal from dies and tooling. Breaks down hollow dies to speed up the turnaround time required for aluminum removal. Removes dies and tooling from caustic tank and rinses them thoroughly in cold water. Moves dies to the breakdown table and removes the bolts. Breaks down the hollow dies into two (2) pieces. Rinses die with hot water in sink. Ensures eye bolt and bolt holes are rinsed thoroughly prior to drying dies using compressed air. Places dried dies into sand blast machine and blast caustic residue from the dies surfaces prior to placing them on a cart for delivery to the die shop for polishing and/or correction. Places cooled backers on the backer rack in their proper place outside of the die cleaning/wastewater treatment room. Advises Die Shop Manager when caustic needs to be added or the caustic tank needs to be drained, cleaned, and refilled. Records date of cleaning and gallons of caustic added, as accomplished. Delivers dies to the press for set up. Sets up dies, puts them on the die ring rack, initials and dates die history sheets, and gives same to production supervisor. Reports to Die Shop Manager on inventory of chemicals (caustic and acids) and other supplies needed to perform his/her job and advises supervisor when supplies are needed. Operates and maintains the wastewater treatment equipment per J. Mark operations manual and SOP. Maintains record logs associated with the wastewater treatment process. Perform other tasks when instructed by supervisor. Complies with safety policies and procedures and maintains a safe and clean work area. Reports any safety or maintenance issues promptly to Die Shop Manager or Safety Director. Education and Experience:
Education:
High School Graduate.
Experience:
General knowledge of aluminum extrusion operations and die maintenance equipment and its use, and operation and maintenance of an industrial waste treatment facility are preferred, but not required. Must possess the physical ability to properly lift 100-pound loads.
License/Certification:
None. Must be capable of being trained and certified as an industrial waste treatment equipment operator within six (6) months.
Estimated On-The-Job Training Period:
Six (6) months. The above qualifications are guidelines; alternative qualifications may be substituted if sufficient to perform the duties.

From $18.50 per hour
