Job Description

The Dietary Aide/Cook is responsible for assisting in the preparation, service, and cleanup of meals while ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation, and dietary guidelines. This role supports the nutrition and well-being of residents/patients by providing safe, appetizing, and properly prepared meals. Key Responsibilities Cooking & Food Preparation Prepare and cook meals according to menus, standardized recipes, and dietary restrictions Ensure food is cooked to proper temperatures and served on time Assist with food prep tasks such as chopping, portioning, and assembling meals Follow therapeutic diets (e.g., low sodium, diabetic, pureed diets) Food Service Serve meals to residents/patients, ensuring correct trays and portions Deliver trays and assist with mealtime setup as needed Maintain a clean and organized serving area Sanitation & Safety Follow all food safety regulations (FDA, state health department, or facility policies) Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, equipment, and dining areas Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment Properly store food and supplies to prevent contamination Inventory & Organization Assist with stocking supplies and rotating food inventory Report shortages or equipment issues to supervisors Help receive and unload deliveries Customer Service Interact respectfully with residents, patients, and team members Accommodate special dietary needs and preferences when possible Promote a positive dining experience Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred Previous experience in food service or healthcare dietary setting preferred Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately Strong teamwork and communication skills Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Lift and carry up to 25-50 pounds Work in hot or cold kitchen environments
Work Schedule Full-Time:
Typically 30-40 hours/week, may include weekends and holidays
Part-Time:
Flexible hours, evenings/weekends as needed Work Environment Healthcare facilities (nursing homes, hospitals, assisted living) or institutional kitchens Fast-paced environment requiring attention to detail and cleanliness Benefits (for Full-Time, optional to include) Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and holidays Opportunities for advancement
