Harris House is a residential shelter located on a ranch for youth ages 13-17 transitioning into foster care. We provide a safe, stable, and trauma‑informed environment that supports healing and growth through structured routines, recreation, and life‑skills development.
Job Definition:
We are seeking energized, compassionate, and reliable Direct Care Staff to support the daily operations of Harris House. This position involves providing trauma‑informed care, teaching life skills, supporting youth through crises, and documenting behaviors and significant events. Staff work closely with the Program Manager and other Direct Care team members to ensure each resident receives consistent, developmentally appropriate support.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Interact with teens in the general milieu, both inside the house and during community outings or essential appointments. Support referred teens in maintaining or returning to their educational paths. Respond to youth's needs and concerns Demonstrate understanding of Trauma Informed Care Treat all teens with dignity and respect, serving youth of all backgrounds and identities. Lead and promote on‑site activities Facilitate daily living operations, including answering phones, prepping and serving meals, cleaning, leading activities and monitoring youth. Assist with room turnovers, new resident intake, orientation, and facility inspections. Support general property management functions as assigned. Maintain safety and security by monitoring general access areas and enforcing program rules. Intervene in crises, respond to emergencies, and initiate appropriate actions, including contacting emergency response systems. Document significant events involving youth and building operations in the daily log; review log entries each shift. Participate actively in staff meetings, supervision, and required training(s). Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning of the program. While performing the duties of this job, employees may be required to: Sit, stand, walk, and communicate effectively with youth and staff. Operate computers and related hardware. Use vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This role takes place in a residential setting and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions during community outings or emergency situations. Minimum Qualifications Must be 21+ Diploma or Highschool Equivalent Experience working with youth ages 13-18. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work onsite during inclement weather as required by program needs. Ability to pass a federal background check. Adherence to mandatory reporting requirements. Valid Washington State driver's license and proof of insurance. Personal Vehicle for transporting youth Ability to learn new software systems quickly.
