Position Summary The Direct Support Professional (DSP)
  • ASL Support Specialist provides direct care and community-based support to individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and/or developmental disabilities who utilize American Sign Language (ASL) as a primary or preferred method of communication.
This role supports participants in achieving greater independence, communication access, community engagement, safety, and quality of life while ensuring services remain compliant with ODP regulations, participant rights, and person-centered practices. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Utilize American Sign Language (ASL) to effectively communicate with participants
  • Support participants with daily living skills and community integration activities
  • Assist participants during recreational, educational, vocational, and social activities
  • Promote participant independence, dignity, and self-advocacy
  • Maintain professional boundaries and positive communication
  • Complete accurate and timely service documentation and progress notes
  • Follow all HIPAA/confidentiality standards and participant rights regulations
  • Implement individualized support plans (ISP outcomes/goals)
  • Support behavioral and emotional needs using positive support approaches
  • Assist with transportation and community navigation when applicable
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, families, residential teams, and support coordinators
  • Report incidents, concerns, or changes in participant condition promptly according to Company policy and ODP regulations Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, or behavioral health needs preferred
  • American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and professionally in community settings
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
  • Ability to pass all required background checks and clearances Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior DSP or human services experience
  • Experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • ODP/MyODP training completion
  • Behavioral support experience Required Clearances & Training
  • PA Criminal Background Check
  • Child Abuse Clearance
  • FBI Fingerprinting (if applicable)
  • Mandated Reporter Training
  • HIPAA Training
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Completion of all required ODP and Company trainings Work Environment Services are primarily provided in community and home-based settings.
Staff may support participants during outings, appointments, recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, educational settings, and other community inclusion activities.
