Direct Support Professional - Wood Shop Lead

This position works directly with individuals in our woodshop, with a primary focus on ensuring safety and facilitating skill development. The program is designed for individuals to actively participate in the building process—developing existing skills and learning new ones—while the Shop Lead provides instruction, support, and oversight. We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of adults with disabilities and help support and teach them the skills to obtain employment and gain independence.

Program Description:

Our woodshop offers a distinctive employment experience for participants by repurposing reclaimed wood and items from deconstructed barns, sheds, and other donated structures. The salvaged materials are transformed into handcrafted wood products, which individuals sell at our location, local markets and our Thrift store. This program teaches individuals a wide range of transferable skills including carpentry, retail operations, woodworking, wood finishing, and painting—empowering individuals to pursue future opportunities in community-integrated employment. Essential Tools and Skills Used in the

Program:

• Carpentry skills including but not limited to the safe use and maintenance of all wood shop equipment and the following tools: Band saws Table saws Planers Drills and drill presses Power sanders Circular saws (skill saws) Jigsaws Gluing and clamping techniques
• Communication and coaching skills allowing individuals to participate in all processes
• Communication of inventory and maintenance needs to the wood products lead
• Willingness to participate in the development of new product ideas While prior experience using these tools is preferred, we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates carpentry knowledge, enthusiasm, reliability, and a strong interest in working in a dynamic, hands-on environment.

An appreciation for sawdust and creativity is always a plus!

Requirements:
