Job Description

Grounded in elements of positive psychology, YAI's crisis stabilization homes offer detailed analysis and crucial interventions to support people with I/DD and co-occurring diagnoses. Direct Support Professionals/RBTs work directly with people under an Applied Behavior Analysis model in our Behavioral Health facility in West Milford, NJ. DSP/RBTs ensure the harmonious and safe daily conduct of the individuals in the Behavioral Health Home, and their overall care and well-being in accordance with YAI program guidelines. Key Functions & Responsibilities:
Ensures implementation of plans of protective oversight, as well as Individual Behavior Support Plans (IBSPs)/ Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) for all people we support. Assists individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, upholding their personal rights, providing emotional support and building positive relationships. Supports people to meet personal goals that characterize quality of life, engages in respectful communications/conversations through person-first language, encourages socializing and facilitates activities that provide social capital and connections to the community. Provides support in a variety of settings and in accordance with each person's individualized service and behavior support plans, utilizing support skills for people with moderate to complex levels of need. Consults with program leadership, clinical and other direct support staff to ensure streamlined and top-quality care for individuals and attends and actively participates in team meetings. Completes and maintains Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) requirements for RBT certification within one year of appointment. Demonstrates and models all skills of BSP with a person centered and trauma informed approach. Behavior Support Specialists must meet the following minimum requirements: HS diploma or its educational equivalent. Fingerprinting and additional relevant/required clearances as required by Federal, State and Local government or other agencies. Tuberculosis test mandatory for most positions. Must hold a valid Driver's license with no more than 5 points. Must obtain Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification within one year of appointment. Basic written and verbal communication skills. Basic technology skills - including e-mail, utilizing Workday and related systems to complete tasks. Interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Willingness to take initiative. Ability to meet essential physical demands of position including frequent walking, sitting, standing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching with hands and arms; use hands to handle, finger or feel objects, tools or controls; assisting with lifting/moving individuals of any weight with assistance of mechanical lifts or other equipment and/or pushing individuals in wheelchairs; lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds or running on occasion; having the physical capacity to work with and implement emergency interventions as per the person's Individual Behavior Support Plan and Individual Emergency Intervention Plan, if/as needed, including lifting/moving individuals of any weight with or without assistance of equipment and/or other staff. Additional Minimum Requirements by State of New Jersey (Behavioral Health Stabilization Homes): At least 6 months' work or life experience with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or behavioral challenges Must hold a valid Driver's license with no more than 5 points New Jersey State drug test screening is mandatory
Preferred Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in a Human Services field (e.g. social work, psychology, etc.) Knowledge of developmental disabilities, clinical syndromes and/or IDD with co-occurring behavioral/mental health needs.
