• Fairmount Area (Job #EL-SV) A 38-year-old male in the Fairmount area in Syracuse is looking for a Direct Support Professional to assist him with pursuing recreational interests, learning more about his community, and improve communication skills.

This person enjoys going to the YMCA to swim and other activities. He also like to shop at Target, go to parks, play with toys, listen to music, drawing or coloring pictures. He occasionally likes groups events as well. The ideal candidate is patient and attentive. The ideal candidate must be willing to physically guide this person and help him find his way around due to vision impairments. The ideal candidate must be willing to help with occasional personal care. The ideal candidate provides strong communication and good judgement. The ideal candidate is willing to participate alongside this person in his activity of choice, which may include swimming. This is a part-time position, but additional hours are available with other people receiving services at the agency.

Hours and days of work:

Thursdays 8:30am-2:30pm and potentially additional days in the future, shifts can be up to 6 hours per day but hours may vary depending on the person's schedule preference each day.

Starting pay:

$18.50/hour and increases with years of relevant experience.

Location:

Syracuse, NY Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years old. Ability to work independently in the person's home and/or community. Reliable with effective communication and organizational skills No experience required but experience working with people with disabilities preferred. New York State Driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance is required; acceptable driving record required. Must have technology available to download multiple apps for use in the community. Must have a valid drivers license Effective communication and organizational skills required. Flexibility with assignments and schedule required. Reliable transportation to arrive to job site at scheduled time. Experience working with people with Developmental Disabilities preferred.
