Job Description

Director of Broadcasting - Catawba College Athletics (Job 26006) About the Position The Director of Broadcasting plays a vital role in shaping the visual identity and digital presence of Catawba College Athletics. This position provides leadership and oversight for all live-streaming operations and video production efforts ensuring high-quality, engaging, and brand-consistent content across all platforms. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and a strategic mindset to elevate the Catawba Athletics brand while creating meaningful experiential opportunities for student staff. Evening and weekend work is required. This position will directly report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Creative Services. Primary Responsibilities Broadcast Operations & Leadership (50%) Provide strategic leadership and daily oversight for all live-streaming operations for Catawba Athletics, ensuring consistent, high-quality productions across conference and institutional platforms (e.g., FloSports). Direct and execute live game broadcasts, including multi-camera productions, replay, graphics, and audio. Develop and maintain production workflows, run-of-show documents, and operational standards to ensure seamless execution of all broadcasts. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student workers, interns, and freelance staff, including camera operators, replay technicians, graphics operators, and on-air talent. Mentor and develop student broadcasters, enhancing play-by-play and color commentary quality. Collaborate with campus IT and external vendors to maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade broadcast equipment and infrastructure. Lead research, planning, and implementation of new technologies and equipment to enhance production capabilities. External Relations & Brand Support (20%) Collaborate with creative services, marketing, and corporate sponsorship teams to integrate branding and sponsorship elements into broadcasts and in-venue productions. Assist in developing and executing revenue-generating opportunities through broadcast-related sponsorships, including in-stream graphics, video board advertising, and branded content. Ensure all video and broadcast content aligns with Catawba Athletics brand standards and institutional messaging. Support departmental initiatives that enhance fan engagement, game day experience, and overall brand visibility. Video Content Production (20%) Assist as needed in video content across all athletic programs, including hype videos, highlights, feature stories, and recruiting content. Film, edit, and produce high-quality video content using industry-standard software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite). Capture compelling content in collaboration with coaches, student-athletes, and staff to support storytelling, recruiting, and fan engagement efforts. Assist in the development and distribution of content across social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, X, and Facebook. Maintain an organized digital archive of video assets and project files. Student Workforce Development (10%) Provide leadership, mentorship, and daily oversight for student employees involved in broadcasting, video production, and content creation. Create a structured training program that promotes skill development, professionalism, and career readiness. Manage scheduling, evaluations, and continued development of student staff. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Sports Media, Communications, or a related field; or Equivalent professional experience (minimum of 3-5 years) in live sports production, broadcasting, or video production. Preferred Qualifications Experience in collegiate athletics, preferably at the NCAA level. Familiarity with live streaming platforms (e.g., BlueFrame, ESPN+, Hudl TV). Experience with broadcast production equipment (e.g., switchers, replay systems, audio boards, graphics systems). Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition). Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Passion for mentoring students and building a hands-on learning environment. Additional Information This position may require evening and weekend hours based on athletic schedules. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Founded in 1851 in Newton, North Carolina, Catawba College was established by German pioneers. In 1890, Catawba became a coeducational institution. In 1925, the College moved to its current location in Salisbury, North Carolina, strategically located just 45 minutes from Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem and within two hours of the mountains and fours from the coast.
