JOB TITLE:
DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
REPORTS TO:
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Provides leadership in the development and improvement of the entire curriculum and instructional program. Works toward developing an improved understanding of children and educational needs among teachers, parents, and administrators
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists principals in planning and implementing effective programs of curriculum, instruction, supervision, and assessment Engages in ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the instructional program. Guides the selection and use of textbooks and other teaching materials Provides leadership in planning and conducting data-driven curriculum studies. Provides coordination and leadership for staff development activities for teachers and staff. Works with teachers in preparation of curriculum and materials Assists principals and teachers in the organization and presentation of instruction. Assists the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction with state and regional accreditation processes, including the U.S. Department of Education, NCDPI, and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Provides teachers with assistance toward solution of instructional problems. Interprets philosophy, goals, and objectives of the entire school program to the Board and to the community. Observes beginning teachers and provides feedback to the teacher and principal. Observes veteran teachers in their classroom and provides feedback. Provides support and coaching to building principals in the improvement process Assists in the review of school improvement plans. Coordinates textbook inventory and distribution Reviews and evaluates curriculum alignment with the assessment program. Any other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction Designs monthly Curriculum professional development opportunities that align with District Mission and Goals. Team Leadership Participate in the interview and selection process of the instructional staff as appropriate Supervise and evaluate district staff, as outlined in the District Organizational Chart. Conduct formal and informal observations and supervision of staff. Counsel with principals and teachers on matters of district-wide concerns in order to help them improve their effectiveness. Cooperate with administrative and supervisory personnel on the overall education program. Stays abreast of current educational developments and literature; participates in the affairs of state and national societies. Assists in developing strategic plans for improving student achievement. Any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor Education and qualifications Master's degree required Other Duties All duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent, Supervisor FLSA Exempt
