  • Full-time Lead Healthcare Excellence in Rural Kansas Carter Clinical Services at Hamilton County Hospital is seeking a visionary and collaborative Director of Nursing (DON) to join our executive leadership team in Syracuse, Kansas.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic nursing leader who is passionate about clinical excellence, patient-centered care, operational performance, and building a culture of safety and accountability. The Director of Nursing will play a critical role in shaping the future of patient care, nursing operations, hospital quality initiatives, workforce development, and organizational strategy. Position Summary The Director of Nursing (DON) provides 24-hour leadership accountability for all nursing and patient care services throughout the facility. This executive leadership role oversees nursing operations, clinical quality, patient safety, staff engagement, regulatory compliance, hospital quality outcomes, and risk management initiatives. The DON collaborates closely with physicians, department leaders, and executive leadership to ensure excellence in patient care delivery while advancing Hamilton County Hospital's mission, strategic goals, and community commitment. This leader will champion evidence-based practice, workforce development, patient experience initiatives, and continuous quality improvement while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and innovation. Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care across the organization. Establish and maintain nursing policies, procedures, staffing plans, and standards of care. Promote interdisciplinary collaboration among nursing, providers, ancillary departments, and administration. Hospital Quality & Patient Safety Lead hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives focused on patient outcomes, safety metrics, regulatory readiness, and clinical excellence. Monitor and improve quality indicators including patient satisfaction, infection prevention, readmissions, falls, and core measures. Partner with leadership teams to ensure compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, state, and federal regulatory standards. Develop and implement evidence-based clinical practices that support high reliability and continuous improvement. Risk Management & Regulatory Compliance Collaborate with executive leadership to identify organizational risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies. Support incident review processes, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning. Ensure nursing services remain compliant with all healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies. Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and patient safety throughout the organization. Strategic & Operational Management Participate in organizational strategic planning and operational decision-making. Develop and oversee departmental budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocation strategies. Drive operational efficiencies while maintaining exceptional patient care standards. Analyze clinical, operational, and financial data to support informed leadership decisions. Leadership Development & Workforce Engagement Mentor and develop nursing leaders and future leadership talent within the organization. Promote employee engagement, retention, recruitment, and professional development initiatives. Support a positive workplace culture that values collaboration, accountability, and excellence. Ensure consistent application of Human Resource policies and best practices. Community & Organizational Engagement Represent Hamilton County Hospital in community partnerships, healthcare initiatives, and professional organizations. Serve as a visible and engaged leader within the hospital and surrounding community. Promote the hospital's mission, vision, and values through leadership and advocacy. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required Master's Degree preferred Experience Minimum one (1) year of healthcare leadership experience required Three (3) years of Director-level leadership experience preferred Acute care hospital leadership experience strongly preferred Licensure & Certifications Current RN License issued by the Kansas State Board of Nursing or compact multistate RN license (eNLC) Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required upon hire Preferred Skills & Expertise Strong executive leadership and organizational management abilities Expertise in hospital quality, patient safety, and regulatory compliance Knowledge of healthcare risk management principles and practices Experience with healthcare operations, budgeting, and financial management Ability to build collaborative relationships with physicians, staff, and community stakeholders Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Commitment to service excellence and patient-centered care Join Our Mission At Hamilton County Hospital, we believe exceptional healthcare starts with exceptional leadership.
