  • Full-time About the Opportunity We are seeking a Director of Nursing (DON) to lead nursing operations at a brand-new inpatient substance abuse treatment facility .
This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for building, developing, and overseeing a nursing department that delivers safe, compliant, and patient-centered care. The ideal candidate is a hands-on nursing leader with experience in substance use disorder (SUD), detox, or behavioral health settings , and a strong background in team leadership, medication management, and regulatory compliance . Key Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day nursing operations including staffing, scheduling, supervision, and performance management Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training of nursing staff to build a high-performing team Ensure compliance with state regulations, Nurse Practice Act, DEA requirements, and all federal healthcare standards Manage all aspects of medication administration , including ordering, storage, reconciliation, and controlled substance monitoring Maintain secure medication systems , conduct audits, and implement diversion prevention protocols Oversee documentation standards including MARs, prescriber orders, and EMR accuracy Partner with medical providers to ensure proper implementation of treatment plans while respecting clinical autonomy Monitor and respond to medication errors, incidents, and quality concerns Lead quality improvement initiatives and maintain survey readiness Participate in incident reporting and regulatory inspections Promote a culture of patient safety, ethical nursing practice, and compliance QualificationsEducation Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required Master's degree preferred Experience 3-5+ years of nursing experience in: Substance abuse treatment Behavioral health Detox or residential settings Prior nursing leadership or supervisory experience required Experience with: Medication reconciliation & controlled substances Regulatory surveys & audits EMR documentation systems Licensure Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state-specific, in good standing) CPR certification required; ACLS preferred Ability to oversee controlled substance compliance / DEA standards What You'll Bring Strong leadership and team-building skills Deep understanding of behavioral health and SUD populations
Knowledge of:
Medication management systems Infection control protocols Healthcare compliance and documentation standards Ability to thrive in a start-up / new facility environment
