Full-time Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing in the Joycelyn Elders School of Allied and Public Health at Philander Smith University is a 12-month appointment that reports directly to the Dean of the Elders School. The Director will oversee all aspects of the division of nursing and provide school-wide leadership for nursing and nursing-related allied health programs. The Director will be an experienced visionary and strategic leader who is passionate about the institution's academic mission and a champion for the excellence of pedagogy. The role will include oversight of nursing program operations, marketing, recruitment, and curriculum design. The Director will work closely with the health industry partners to design innovative curricula that enhance students' skills and knowledge and comply with professional accreditation requirements, recruit students and faculty, and manage the operational logistics of major grants and contracts. The Director is responsible for operating the nursing program at the highest level of quality and efficiency while promoting a culture of assessment that yields positive student outcomes. In addition, the Director will be results-oriented to ensure the long-term success of the program. The Division of Nursing prepares engaged advocates for social justice for entry into professional practice within the varied health systems and organizations within Central Arkansas, the rest of the state, and the nation.Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing curricula to align with accreditation and industry standards. Ensure compliance with state, federal, and accrediting regulations. Recruit, hire, and evaluate nursing faculty while maintaining credentialing standards. Secure and manage grants, fostering public/private partnerships. Oversee budget planning, financial management, and program operations. Analyze program data and produce required reports. Engage with healthcare partners to enhance workforce development initiatives. Represent the University at regional, state, and national meetings. Conduct timely review, evaluation, and development of nursing faculty and staff. Support the School's efforts to educate the healthcare workforce to ensure state-of-the-art skills Enhance the University's efforts to prepare a culturally diverse cadre of health professionals in partnership with the local health care community. Coordinate the annual and long-range departmental planning and evaluation processes for the nursing program. Develop effective partnerships with healthcare industries in the identification of training needs. Serve as the University's liaison with these industries. Develop and coordinate nursing program advisory committees. Attend regional, state-wide, and national meetings to maintain professional growth and represent the University. Serve on institutional committees as directed by the President or VPAA. Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Minimum Master of Science in Nursing (MSN); terminal degree preferred. 5-7 years of experience in program development, grant management, and new program implementation.Preferred Qualifications:
Proven leadership in nursing education and program administration. Academic credentials meriting a tenured full professor appointment. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Experience in securing grants and working in diverse, multicultural environments. Commitment to student-centered learning and professional excellence.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong commitment to academic excellence and student success. Experience in lesson planning, instructional design, and student assessment. Effective communication of learning expectations through structured activities. Skilled in engaging students and evaluating learning outcomes. Self-motivated team player with cross-disciplinary collaboration skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with university resources. Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods during simulation sessions. Must also be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds for equipment setup and maintenance.Work Environment:
Primarily based in a clinical simulation laboratory with potential classroom settings.- Highly interactive role requiring collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
- Frequent use of simulation equipment, computers, and audiovisual systems.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed for course schedules and simulation sessions.
- Dynamic work environment requiring equipment adjustments, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving.
Lifting:
Ability to lift and transport simulation equipment, including manikins and medical supplies, weighing up to 50 pounds.Mobility :
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching to set up and operate simulation equipment, assist students, and conduct demonstrations.Manual Dexterity :
Requires fine motor skills to operate simulation technology, troubleshoot issues, and assemble/disassemble components.Vision Acuity Requirements :
Must posses clear near and far vision, accurate depth perception, and ability to adjust focus for reading digital screens, monitoring simulations, and evaluating student performance.Travel :
Occasional travel is required for professional development, conferences, training, and external collaborations.Note:
