Job Description

Southwood Children's Behavioral Healthcare is dedicated to providing affordable and effective healthcare and education for children and adolescents, ages 3-21, who have been abused and neglected and are intellectually, emotionally, and behaviorally challenged. Our vision is the planned and thoughtful provision of high-quality care and educational services in a trauma-informed manner that promotes the wellness of the residents, families, and communities we serve. We are looking for an experienced Director of Nursing to join our leadership team. Our facility is located in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
PURPOSE STATEMENT
Responsible for directing, planning, coordinating, monitoring and supervising the effective and efficient use of the operations of nursing and the delivery of behavioral health/nursing services in a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers at all times Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment teams, other departments and administration to ensure that all residents' physical, biopsychosocial, age, developmental and cultural needs are met and when they are not met, acknowledges and works to resolve customer complaints. Provide leadership to assure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as nursing practice standards. Recognizes that patient safety is a top priority.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Sets the vision for nursing practice in the delivery of safe, timely, efficient, equitable and patient centered care. Anticipates and effectively manage changes in census and acuity and allocates nursing resources based on measurement of patient acuity/care needed. Role models expectations related to customer service and demonstrates a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety while providing direct hands on care to the residents of the program. Is able to use time wisely in order to manage the administrative functions of the role while providing direct care on a regular basis. Plan, direct, coordinate nursing services within the recovery facility. Direct, supervise and evaluate work activities of all nursing personnel. Provide clinical leadership, strategic and long term goals for the nursing staff. Determine, assign, and assess performance objectives for nursing department. Organize, coordinate, develop and review policies, procedures and nursing protocols within the facility to meet all regulatory, compliance and quality care standards. Responsible for the quality of care, operational and financial efficiency of the nursing department. Lead and develop the nursing staff within the facility, providing performance goals, feedback and development opportunities. Set and carry out policies, goals and procedures for their function or department. Evaluate the quality of care, staff's work and the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the function or department. Develop and oversee function or departmental budget and reporting. Direct and conduct recruitment, hiring and training of personnel.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
SWOOD EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree or higher strongly preferred.
  • Current registered nursing license in State of facility required
  • 6 + years' experience as a registered nurse preferred
  • 3 years of registered nursing experience required.
  • Two years of experience in behavioral health as a Registered Nurse preferred.
  • One year experience in behavioral health/psychiatric/addiction recovery environment (inpatient or outpatient) or relatable experience required
  • Prior DON or Nurse Manager experience preferred
  • Two years of progressive leadership or management experience required
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS
Current RN license within the state of PA. CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility). First aid may be required based on state or facility.
