Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Dean of Public Safety, the Director is responsible for the administration and oversight of Fire/Rescue and In-Service Law Enforcement Training programs at Brunswick Community College. The Director maintains strong relationships with public safety agencies, responds to identified training needs, and ensures the delivery of high-quality, compliant programming. This position oversees all program operations, including instructor supervision, course development, scheduling, budgeting, and evaluation. The Director works closely with students, instructors, and community partners to support student success, ensure program effectiveness, and align training with local workforce needs. Plan, schedule, and manage Fire/Rescue and In-Service Law Enforcement training courses Assess training needs of local fire departments and law enforcement agencies and develop responsive programming Build and maintain strong relationships with public safety partners and advisory committees Conduct class visits (on-campus and off-site) in accordance with BCC policies Monitor program quality and promote strong student outcomes, including first-time certification pass rates Develop instructional contracts and review end-of-course documentation for accuracy and compliance Supervise, evaluate, and support instructors; recommend and assist with hiring qualified personnel Prepare and submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner Collaborate with county and local government personnel to support training initiatives Support recruitment and retention efforts to grow Continuing Education and Workforce Development enrollment Associate degree in a related field Four (4) years of experience in the fire service Current IFSAC Fire Instructor certification (or equivalent recognized credential) North Carolina Instructor certification for fire and/or law enforcement training Demonstrated knowledge of fire service training standards and instructional practices Two (2) years of experience in adult education, preferably within the North Carolina Community College System Fire Officer I certification through NCOSFM North Carolina law enforcement experience FEMA certifications related to incident command or emergency management Current CPR Instructor certification
