JOHNSTON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE OF POSITION
Director of School Safety and Security SALARY:

Chief of Student Services
JOB GOAL
To support the goals and vision of Johnston County Public Schools by leading and coordinating comprehensive districtwide safety, security, emergency preparedness, and crisis response efforts in order to provide a safe and secure learning and working environment for students, staff, and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
Experience in school safety, emergency management, law enforcement, military, or related field preferred. Knowledge of local, state, and federal school safety laws and regulations. Knowledge of emergency operations planning, threat assessment, crisis response, and school security procedures. Ability to analyze data and prepare reports using spreadsheets, graphs, and charts. Possess strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with school administrators, law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and community stakeholders. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations. Strong organizational and leadership skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with district administrators and school leaders regarding safety-related concerns and crisis response. Review and analyze incident reports, trends, and safety data to recommend improvements. Assist with development and implementation of school safety grants and related funding opportunities. Coordinate security measures for district facilities and special events. Oversee district security systems including cameras, access control systems, visitor management systems, and emergency communication systems. Assist in the coordination and response to emergencies, crises, and critical incidents. Provide guidance and support related to student and staff safety concerns. Develop and maintain positive relationships with community agencies and stakeholders related to school safety initiatives. Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for the Superintendent and Board of Education regarding safety and security matters. Attend district, regional, state, and national meetings and conferences related to school safety and security. Assist with the development and revision of Board policies and administrative procedures related to school safety and security. Serve on district committees related to emergency preparedness, crisis response, and school safety initiatives. Maintain records and documentation related to safety compliance, training, and incident reporting. Required to respond after hours, weekends, and holidays as necessary during emergencies or critical incidents. Oversee district security systems including cameras, access control systems, visitor management systems, and emergency communication systems. Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions needed to fulfill required job duties. Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with employees, administrators, law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and community stakeholders.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Required to work a staggered work schedule as needed. Required to work after hours, weekends and holidays as needed to assist law enforcement with vandalism and accidents on school buses and activity buses.
