Job Description

The Public Schools of Brookline seeks a collaborative, student-centered leader to serve as the Director of Steps to Success. This position provides leadership for comprehensive and wraparound academic and enrichment supports for students through the district's partnership with Steps to Success, oversight of targeted support programming, and coordination of Title I services across the district. The Director works closely with students, families, school leaders, staff, and community partners to strengthen access, engagement, and academic success for students. This role supervises PBS Steps to Success program staff, coordinates key partnerships, and ensures the effective implementation of grant-funded services aligned with district priorities.
Qualifications:
Master's degree required Massachusetts DESE licensure as Supervisor/Director required Minimum of two years of relevant leadership experience Knowledge of child and adolescent development Experience working effectively with students and families from diverse backgrounds Ability to support students facing socioeconomic and other barriers through strong relationships, advocacy, and coordination of services Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to gather, analyze, and use student and program data Experience supervising staff and leading collaborative teams Experience coordinating school-based or community-based programs
Job Requirements:
Master's degree Citizen, residency or work VISA in the United States Massachusetts DESE licensure Supervisor/Director or Assistant Principal/Principal At least 2 years of relevant leadership experience Preferred Licensure in Social Work, Counseling or related field Experience working with public housing authorities or other community organizations Experience with grant implementation Experience building partnerships that expand opportunities for students and families
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision Coordinate and supervise the work of the PBS Steps to Success Advisor Team. Meet regularly with Advisors to establish priorities, monitor progress, and support effective practice. Provide coaching, guidance, and professional learning for Advisors and related staff. Establish summer work expectations, schedules, and supervision plans for program staff. Collaborate with principals, deans, and school leaders to ensure strong integration of Advisors within each school community. Student and Family Support Support Advisors in their advocacy and work with students and families. Oversee systems for case management, progress monitoring, and student support planning. Serve as a liaison among students, families, school staff, and community partners as needed. Attend school-based meetings in support of students and families. Coordinate transition planning and support for students moving from Grade 8 to Brookline High School. Programs and Partnerships Oversee afterschool Steps to Success academic programs serving students in Grades 3-8, including staffing, enrollment, attendance monitoring, and program quality. Represent district programming in partnership meetings and public settings. Work closely with the leadership of Steps to Success, Inc. to coordinate services, communication, and shared priorities. Facilitate student access to camps, internships, employment opportunities, and other enrichment experiences connected to community partnerships. Title I Program Support Coordinate the implementation of Title I programming and supports across the district under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning or their designee. Collaborate with principals and school teams to identify eligible services and align supports with school and district priorities. Monitor implementation of Title I-funded programming and services. Maintain documentation, reporting, and compliance requirements related to Title I grants. Use student and program data to assess effectiveness and support continuous improvement. Supervision The Director of Steps to Success reports to the Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning or their designee. This is a Unit B position, 210 days/year. The work year follows the school calendar for Unit A, with an additional 27 days to be worked between July 1 and August 31 to supervise and support summer programs and the work of the PSB Steps to Success Advisors. Work hours will vary from the standard Unit A schedule, and will be set to align with program needs as approved by the Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. The Director will not be assigned any building-based duties; though there may be occasions when the Director will need to provide some intermittent support in program classrooms.
