JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Teaching and Learning provides visionary, data-informed leadership for curriculum development, instructional excellence and professional learning district-wide aligned with the East Grand Strategic Plan. Reporting to the Superintendent, this leader supervises building principals and instructional coaches to ensure all students in the district have access to high-quality, rigorous, and equitable learning experiences aligned with Colorado Academic Standards. This position plays a central role in translating district goals into coherent, actionable academic programs, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, inclusive practices, and evidence-based instruction across all grade levels and content areas.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Educational Programs Direct the educational programs of the district to ensure that every student develops the enduring knowledge, skills, and character to thrive in a changing world. Oversee and supervise the academic functions of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student academic data. Ensure that the district's curriculum meets the needs of all students and leads to high educational outcomes. Oversee the review, adoption, implementation, and vertical alignment of curriculum aligned with Colorado Academic Standards. Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of district instructional practices in a coherent framework that guarantees all students benefit from high-quality instruction and achieve high educational outcomes. Ensure instructional materials meet equity, accessibility, and quality standards, including state-adopted materials guidance. Monitor and evaluate instructional processes through classroom observations, walkthroughs, and data analysis. Professional Learning & Coaching Design and lead a coherent, job-embedded professional development system that builds educator capacity and achieves high educational outcomes for students. Supervise instructional coaches and coordinate their work across schools. In collaboration with building principals, facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on student learning, data inquiry, and shared instructional practices. Coordinate professional learning opportunities across the district in alignment with the district strategic plan and district initiatives, leveraging both internal and external partners. Equity & Inclusion Support the implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) to address academic and social-emotional needs. Ensure that Tier 1 instruction provide rigorous, differentiated Tier 1 supports for all subpopulation groups including Gifted Talented, English Language Learners, and Special Education so that services are integrated into universal instruction. Collaborate with school-based teams to reduce achievement gaps and increase access to Tier 1 instruction. Leadership & Administration Collaborate with the Executive Committee, Administration Team, and Strategic Planning Advisory Council on strategic planning, district unified improvement plans, consolidated application for Title funds, and accreditation efforts. Assist in budget development and allocations related to instruction, professional learning, Title funds, curriculum, and other related areas. Ensure regulatory compliance with state and federal education agencies as it applies to curriculum, instruction, and graduation requirements. Serve as liaison to the Board of Education, parent/guardian groups, and community partners on instructional matters. Stay current on state and federal education policy including ESSA, IDEA, and Colorado-specific legislative requirements. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED
Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, Administration, or a related field. Valid Colorado administrative license (Principal or Administrator) issued by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), or eligibility for licensure. Completion of CDE's E-Train Evaluator training (SB 22-070). Minimum 5 years successful classroom teaching experience. Minimum of 3 years in curriculum leadership, instructional coaching, or school/district administration.
PREFERRED
Experience in a Colorado public school district. Demonstrated experience with curriculum design, standards alignment, and instructional program evaluation. Experience with Colorado Academic Standards and state assessment systems. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
