Job Description:
The Director of Title IX & Institutional Equity reports to the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Belonging (who serves as the Title IX, Section 504, and Title VI Coordinator). The Director is responsible for the administration of Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, and Section 504 processes, including the intake process, internal investigations, oversight of external and internal investigations, training, prevention education, and compliance with federal and state regulations and reporting requirements. This role ensures prompt, equitable, and thorough response to reports of sex- and gender-based misconduct as well as bias/discrimination on the basis of race, disability, and other identities protected by institutional policies, federal or state law while fostering a campus environment grounded in equity, respect, and accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management:
Oversee and conduct intake, case assessment, investigation, and resolution of Title IX, Bias and Discrimination reports; Assign and supervise internal and external investigators; Ensure timely and equitable investigation processes in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations; Provide information to parties about rights, resources, and process options; Maintain accurate, confidential case records and documentation.
Investigations:
Conduct prompt, thorough, and equitable investigations into complaints of sexual misconduct and bias; Interview parties and witnesses, gather evidence, and prepare detailed investigative reports; Apply a trauma-informed and impartial approach throughout the process.
Compliance & Policy Oversight:
Assist the Vice President in ensuring institutional compliance with Title IX and related civil rights laws; Assist in regularly reviewing and updating policies, procedures, and grievance processes; and internal decision trees and reference tools; Assist in monitoring legal and regulatory changes and advise senior leadership accordingly; Assist in preparing reports and documentation for audits, OCR inquiries, and institutional leadership.
Training & Prevention:
Develop, implement, and/or manage comprehensive training programs for students, faculty, staff, investigators, decision makers, advisors, and other stakeholders; Coordinate prevention and awareness initiatives related to sexual misconduct and gender equity; Collaborate with the Office of Wellness Education and Violence Prevention on campus-wide programming (examples: Orientation, Welcome Week, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Domestic Violence Awareness Month).
Leadership & Supervision:
Supervise the Assistant Director and Civil Rights Investigator and help manage the relationship with decision makers, advisors, etc.; Coordinate with campus partners including Student Affairs, HR, Athletics, and Academic Affairs; Serve as a key advisor to the VP/Title IX Coordinator on strategy and risk management.
Campus Collaboration:
Partner with confidential resources and support services to ensure a survivor-centered approach; Serve as a visible and accessible campus resource for Title IX-related concerns; Support institutional efforts related to equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's or JD strongly preferred. 5+ years of experience in Title IX, civil rights compliance, student conduct, HR, or related field. Demonstrated experience conducting or overseeing investigations. Strong knowledge of Title IX regulations and related federal/state laws. Excellent judgment, organizational skills, and ability to manage sensitive matters. Required Qualifications Experience in higher education. Training in trauma-informed investigation practices. Experience supervising staff. Familiarity with Maxient conduct software.
Reporting Structure:
Reports to: Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Belonging (Title IX Coordinator).
Supervises:
Assistant Director and Civil Rights Investigator, external investigators (as applicable).
Salary Range:
$95,000 to $100,000 annually
