Job Overview:
The Director of Spiritual Care provides spiritual and administrative leadership for Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. The Director provides long-term vision, planning, and department goal setting, and oversees the day-to-day operation of the department. Responsibilities include management of chaplains and therapeutic musicians, budget control, programming, policy formation, compliance oversight, and other duties expected of department-level personnel. The position is full time with benefits and requires overnight and weekend call as necessary. Direct patient, family, and staff contact and involvement is expected as necessary for coverage or other circumstances.
Qualifications:
Required:
Minimum of 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education via the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education or other nationally recognized chaplaincy certification body Board-certified via nationally recognized chaplaincy certification body Ordination in a Faith tradition or completion of a Master of Divinity level or above Multi-year experience supervising staff as well as experience in administrative management Scheduling requirements: Shift-8:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday may cover weekends as needed; on call required
Full Time-Day Essential Functions:
Daily huddles with chaplains to offer tools and strategies for patient spiritual care, process difficult cases, and coordinate patient care amongst chaplains as necessary Staff meetings to debrief on issues, discuss and adjust daily coverage areas, check in on clinical staff well-being, and deploy resources Scheduling for all staff, including CPE students, volunteers, and per diem coverage 24/7 Monitoring medical record system and deploying chaplain and music resources as needed Reviewing chaplains' medical record charting in individual patient charts Plan Professional Development opportunities (clinical knowledge training, skill-building workshops) Annual review process - assessment of chaplaincy skills, feedback on development as a chaplain, discussion of where there are opportunities for growth Manage and deploy resources for staff support programs
