Job Description

Position Summary:
Assists the Administrator by assuming and delegating responsibility for specific functions. Is responsible for resident care and personnel management of the unit. Services to be provided for residents over 16 years of age regardless of age, race, religion, and cultural background. Majority of services provided for elderly.
Education, License & Cert:
BSN or Master's degree preferred. Pennsylvania RN License required.
Experience:
Three years of nursing experience, acute care plus one year long term care preferred. Experience in management position preferred. Maintains CPR certification. Follows universal precautions and utilizes proper body mechanics. Keeps up to date in the field of nursing, especially geriatrics.
Essential Functions:
Compliance with rules and regulations of all federal, state, and local governments is a requirement of employment. Assists in the orientation of new personnel. Conducts performance evaluations. Resolves scheduling/staffing problems. Assists administrator in recommending new policies, procedures, and equipment. Assumes other responsibilities as required, reasonably related. Demonstrates knowledge and performs within the limits of the State Nurse Practice Act and the Code of Ethics. Evaluates need of potential residents to determine if needs can be met. Holds multidisciplinary conferences to help determine and meet resident's needs. Maintains resident's rights. Keeps up‐to‐date in field of geriatric nursing, rehabilitative and convalescent nursing and unit management. Provides direct resident care by utilizing the nursing process. Promotes good employee relations and solves unit/department problems. Promotes group morale with positive attitude. Work with hospital Discharge Planner and family members. Works with area Home Health agencies as needed for discharged resident's needs. Participates in Performance Improvement activities. Works with Nursing Home Administrator on 5 star rating system. Keeps informed of fire, safety, and disaster programs. Attends designated inservice programs. Attends staff meetings. Organizes resident assessments. Participates in resident/family/caregiver education and counseling. Plans resident care and assigns duties. Directs and supervises nursing personnel. Assists Administrator with evaluating effectiveness of resident care. Formulates resident care plans. Provides leadership and direction in absence of the Administrator.
Other Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned.
