Job Description
Position Summary The Emergency Dispatcher position is responsible for receiving 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls and dispatching law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. Dispatchers serve as the communication hub between the public and first responders, ensuring resources are deployed quickly and information is clearly shared. Successful candidates must demonstrate outstanding spoken communication, active listening, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a high-demand, often unpredictable environment. Minimum Qualifications Must be 21 years of age High school diploma or equivalent required Must possess exceptional moral character and judgment Must not have felony, domestic assault, or serious misdemeanor convictions Essential Duties Answer and prioritize emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio calls Dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire, and medical units using established protocols Use computer-aided dispatch systems, mapping tools, and multiple radio frequencies Document incidents with clear, accurate written and electronic records Simultaneously monitor multiple communication channels and adjust priorities as situations evolve Provide pre-arrival instructions and information to callers when required
Compensation & Benefits Salary Range:
$21.57 - $26.02 per hour (commensurate with experience) Full paid family health insurance provided by the City of Holdrege Retirement plan 9% with 9% city match Training program to develop dispatch skills and certifications Full-time role with bid shifts, rotating weekends, and some holiday coverage Night shift differential, longevity pay, holiday pay, and paid time off Mental and health wellness plans and up to $4000 HSA deposit annually Uniforms and clothing provided and additional employee-centric benefits Applicants should be calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and eager to support public safety operations while working as part of a dedicated communications team.Salary/Compensation:
