Job Description

JOB POSTING PAULDING COUNTY, OHIO JUVENILE COURT DIVERSION/EVENING REPORTING SPECIALIST
One Full-Time (40 hours per week)
JOB PURPOSE
: The Diversion Specialist is responsible for diverting youth from the system through informal meetings with youth, families, school personnel, other individuals. The Evening Reporting Specialist is responsible for assessing and monitoring the assessment center during evening programming and events.
QUALIFICATIONS
: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Behavioral or Social Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience. Previous work experience in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Court, or Juvenile Justice systems is preferred but not necessary. Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Ohio driver's license and proof of insurance, reliable transportation for work-related travel, and submit to pre-employment screenings such as a drug screen and background check.
TASKS PERFORMED
: The responsibilities of these positions include, but are not limited to:
Caseload Administration :
Effectively maintain the organized administration of the caseload, including balancing the following duties in an effective and timely fashion: Receive and review assigned police reports/complaints Conduct informal intake meetings Provide follow-up consulting on open cases Counsel and coach youth to improve behavior and enhance deficient life skills, using evidence-based practices (e.g., Carey Guides, Motivational Interviewing, etc.) Act as a liaison between students and school personnel Refer youth/parents to services and resources, including MRSS, Behavioral Health, Family and Children First Council, Parenting Classes, Mentoring, Thinking for a Change, etc. Tracks information and prepares documentation required by the Ohio Department of Youth Services. Conduct assessments on youth upon entrance into Diversion and during the evening reporting hours: OYAS; GAIN-SS; ACEs; RAI Create individualized case plans for each youth on diversion Gathers and utilizes other agency reports pertinent to youth and family background in the formation of case planning; Administers drug screenings/tests Monitor youth through office, home, school, and community contacts
Attendance, Punctuality, and Schedule Flexibility :
Work a 40-hour week with varying hours, including some evening hours at the assessment center. Regularly and punctually reports for work during assigned times. Be available by cell phone during business hours and your rotation of on-call. Public Speaking /
Effective Communication:
Receive telephone referrals from parents/guardians Attend court hearings as needed/testify as appropriate. Make presentations to the community upon request Confidentiality. Exercises discretion and sound judgment regarding the confidentiality of all information encountered on the job. Direct and maintain confidentiality in managing sensitivity of legal issues and case specifics.
Policy Compliance:
Responsible for following the Court's employee handbook and policies, including its policy prohibiting workplace harassment. Responsible for seeking feedback from the Court when unclear about the proper steps to take in following these policies. Maintain personal timesheet
Cooperation:
Works cooperatively with co-workers, Court staff, attorneys, litigants, parents, juveniles, witnesses, and other visitors to the Court. This includes, but is not limited to, the following activities: Attend staff meetings Comply with all grant requirements (tracking forms, statistics, etc.) Engage in ongoing professional development Assist with the development/writing of the Annual Report Engage in regular supervision meetings with supervisor Other duties as assigned by supervisor or Appointing Authority
