Job Description

Veterinary Care Manager (Part-Time) Home for Good Dog Rescue - Berkeley Heights, NJ Home for Good Dog Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue organization committed to saving dogs from high-kill shelters and giving them a second chance at life. We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Veterinary Care Manager to join our team. Unlike a kennel or shelter facility, we operate a foster-based program in New Jersey , where this role is directly responsible for the medical well-being and preventative care of 30-60 dogs at any given time while they reside in foster homes awaiting adoption.
Key Responsibilities:
Medical Oversight Manage the health and preventative care of 30-60 foster-based dogs, including vaccines, medications, heartworm/flea/tick preventatives, and treatments. Supervise and maintain all medication inventory, including controlled substances. Diagnostics & Treatment Perform and interpret manual fecal floats ; identify parasites and other findings under a microscope. [Do not apply for this position if you are not comfortable preparing/reading manual fecal floats under a microscope with no guidance.] Recognize and treat common shelter/rescue diseases (kennel cough, intestinal parasites, mange, etc.). Administer vaccines and medications (SQ, IM, IV) and accurately calculate dosages. Draw blood and place IV catheters when necessary. Recordkeeping & Documentation (Critical Focus) Compile and maintain complete, neat, and well-organized medical records for every animal, ensuring adoption packets are professional, accurate, and easy to follow. Track medical compliance and outcomes using detailed Excel spreadsheets. Guarantee records are updated promptly and reflect the highest standards of clarity and organization. Coordination & Communication Liaise with the veterinarian of record regarding case management. Schedule, coordinate, and follow up on spay/neuter procedures with partner hospitals. Provide medical support and guidance to fosters and adopters via phone/email. Transport dogs to veterinary appointments as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of Veterinary Technician experience , preferably in shelter/rescue medicine. Strong proficiency in dosage calculations, fecal floats, and microscopy . Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel required; Word/Outlook preferred). NJ Veterinary Technician certification strongly preferred. Exceptional organizational skills; ability to produce clean, accurate, professional medical records . Must be detail-oriented, self-sufficient, and adaptable to a fast-paced rescue environment. Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. Flexibility to respond to urgent/emergency foster calls outside of regular hours .

Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 10am-6pm (~25 hrs/week, 2-3 days per week according to need and/or one day on a weekend) On weeks when new dogs arrive from the South on transport, the Veterinary Care Manager must be present for transport arrival at 7:00am . These transport workdays typically run 7:00am-3:00pm .
Compensation:
Competitive; commensurate with experience. ($25-$35/hr) This role is mission-critical to ensuring the health and adoptability of every foster dog under our care.
