  • Full-time Summary of Description and Responsibilities Provide professional counseling services for shelter and community clients including intake, crisis intervention, and therapy—both individual and group. Provides advocacy to those who have experienced and/or witnessed domestic and sexual violence. The counselor will provide on-call services as needed and assigned. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assesses counseling needs of adults and children who have experienced and/or witnessed domestic and sexual violence.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to adults and children who have experienced and/or witnessed domestic and sexual violence.
  • Utilizes a trauma-informed approach to develop individualized therapeutic plans for each client and implements clinically appropriate interventions to achieve outcomes.
  • Thinks critically and creatively and is able to adapt clinical approaches to the needs of each client in the program.
  • Collaborate and communicate with direct service staff to ensure all client needs are met, to discuss shared client progress, and enhance service provisions.
  • Facilitates or co-facilitates support groups at least once per week. Groups should contain no more than 12 clients.
  • Assists and provides education to clients on domestic violence related issues on an individual or group basis.
  • Documents client interaction and advocacy services. Compiles and maintains documentation, records, and prepares reports in a timely manner.
  • Operates within the Code of Ethics of their discipline (e.g., LPC, LCSW, etc.).
  • Adheres to agency missions and values.
  • Adheres to agency confidentiality standards.
  • Provides education and training on the effects of domestic and sexual violence to the general community as requested.
  • Complete all training as assigned.
  • Adhere to all federal and state regulations regarding client services, specifically avoiding inappropriate conduct and strictly maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Maintain a high level of professional and ethical conduct towards clients, staff, and the community.
  • Maintain and promote a philosophy of customer service consistent with the goals of the agency. Be sensitive to client service issues and flexible enough to respond to meet the needs of individual clients.
  • Must be sensitive to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the service population, as well as with coworkers.
  • Responsible for outreach, individually or with other staff, to raise awareness of agency services and to keep a consistent client caseload.
  • Responsible, as appropriate, for maintaining license in good standing including fulfilling continuing professional education requirements.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team setting.
  • Must be able to commute to multiple locations.
  • Other duties as assigned. Requirements and Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field with two years of post-graduate experience providing counseling services, preferred experience working with adult and child survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
  • Must be licensed and/or working towards licensure for LPC, LPCC, LPCP, MHC, LMHC, or LCSW.
  • Maintain professional licensure/certification in good standing or actively under supervision for licensure.
  • A minimum of one-year supervised experience in individual and group counseling.
  • Strong understanding of the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence, trauma, and the impact on individuals and the community.
  • Familiar and comfortable with computers and various software, including Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have ability to respond to survivors of domestic and sexual violence in a non-judgmental and empathic manner.
  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours and to accommodate clients.
  • Ability to provide evening and weekend participation in various agency events.
  • Must have the ability to adhere to client confidentiality policy.
  • Maintain high standard of ethical and confidential practices.
  • Must pass a CYFD background check.
FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt. The Domestic Violence Counselor is employed at-will, which means she/he may be terminated for any reason or no reason at all.
