Job Description

Overview The Charter Township of Brownstown is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join our Department of Public Works (DPW). Under the supervision of the DPW General Foreman, this role involves performing a variety of manual labor, maintenance, and construction-related tasks throughout the Township. Duties Cut grass and perform weed whipping around Township utilities, including fire hydrants Paint and maintain fire hydrants Assist with lawn restoration projects such as seeding and sod installation Support general upkeep of DPW facilities (cleaning, organizing tools, washing vehicles) Operate Township vehicles and equipment, including pickup trucks and small machinery Complete daily work orders and maintain accurate records Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions Experience with landscaping tasks such as lawn care, gardening, or horticulture preferred Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and gardening equipment is a plus Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols Willingness to learn new skills related to irrigation, landscape maintenance, and land management Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively both independently and as part of a team Prior experience in public works or municipal maintenance is advantageous but not required Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required Licenses & Certifications Valid Michigan Driver's License required Skills & Abilities Ability to work independently in the field Basic knowledge of operating trucks and power tools Strong attention to detail and record-keeping Ability to read and complete work orders Ability to interact professionally with the public and coworkers This position offers a dynamic environment where your efforts directly enhance community spaces.
