Job Description

Job Title:
Rebar Detailer / Drafter Job Description We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Rebar Detailer/Drafter to join a collaborative drafting team. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong foundation in drafting and a keen eye for precision who want to contribute directly to the structural integrity of construction projects. You will prepare detailed drawings and plans that guide the fabrication, layout, and installation of reinforcing steel bars (rebar) used in concrete construction. Your work will ensure that rebar is designed and placed accurately and efficiently, in full compliance with project specifications, engineering requirements, and industry standards. The position offers significant opportunities for learning, growth, and advancement, and is open to both entry-level candidates who are eager to be trained and mid-level professionals with a few years of experience. Responsibilities Prepare accurate and detailed rebar shop drawings and plans that support the fabrication, layout, and installation of reinforcing steel in concrete construction projects. Interpret structural and architectural drawings, specifications, and engineering requirements to produce compliant and constructible rebar details. Use drafting software such as AutoCAD and MicroStation to create, revise, and finalize drawings in accordance with project standards and industry best practices. Coordinate with project stakeholders to clarify design intent, resolve discrepancies, and ensure that all rebar detailing aligns with project schedules and requirements. Ensure all drawings meet applicable codes, standards, and internal quality guidelines, paying close attention to accuracy, completeness, and clarity. Support project coordination efforts by communicating potential issues, conflicts, or design changes to the appropriate team members in a timely manner. Oversee and review the work of entry-level drafters, providing guidance, feedback, and support to help them develop their skills and maintain quality standards. Take on more complex or niche detailing tasks while delegating standard drafting activities to junior team members as appropriate. Participate in and successfully complete a drafting placement test, demonstrating solid drafting knowledge and a willingness to ask questions when clarification is needed. Actively engage in continuous learning, asking questions and seeking clarification to ensure accuracy, rather than making assumptions that could impact the quality of the work product. Essential Skills Foundational drafting skills with the ability to read and interpret construction and engineering drawings. Proficiency or strong aptitude for using AutoCAD to produce and modify technical drawings. Ability or willingness to learn MicroStation for use in rebar detailing and related drafting tasks. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing and reviewing drawings and documentation. Effective project coordination skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with team members and ask questions when clarification is needed. Demonstrated interest in construction and structural work, particularly in concrete and reinforcing steel applications. Willingness to take and pass a drafting placement test designed to assess drafting knowledge and problem-solving approach. Openness to feedback and a mindset that values asking questions over making assumptions to protect the quality of the work product. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in rebar detailing or structural drafting is beneficial, especially for mid-level candidates with a few years of relevant experience. Prior exposure to construction projects or construction-related drafting is an advantage. Ability to oversee and mentor entry-level drafters, including reviewing their work and providing constructive guidance. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple drafting tasks and priorities within project timelines. Eagerness to grow within the organization, take on increased responsibility, and pursue promotional opportunities over time. Work Environment You will work as part of a collaborative drafting team focused on supporting concrete construction projects. The environment encourages continuous learning, open communication, and asking questions to ensure high-quality work. You will use tools such as AutoCAD and MicroStation in a professional office setting, with access to team members for guidance and coordination. The role includes both independent drafting work and oversight of entry-level drafters, allowing you to handle more complex or niche tasks while delegating standard drafting activities. The organization offers opportunities for growth and promotion, and supports individuals who want to take on as much responsibility as they are ready for over time.
