DSP (Direct Support Professional)

Job Overview As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Responsibilities Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting them with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management. Foster a safe and supportive environment by ensuring cleanliness and organization in living spaces. Assist clients with mobility and physical activities, including lifting and transferring when necessary. Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs, including memory care strategies for those requiring additional support. Engage clients in social and recreational activities to promote community involvement and personal development. Maintain accurate records of client progress, behaviors, and any incidents that may occur during shifts. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and other team members to ensure comprehensive care for clients. Skills Experience in direct support or caregiving roles is preferred. Knowledge of first aid practices and emergency response protocols. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to work compassionately with people who have disabilities, demonstrating patience and understanding. Proficiency in meal preparation and maintaining dietary requirements for clients. Capability to perform cleaning tasks as part of maintaining a healthy living environment. Physical ability to lift clients safely and assist them with mobility as needed.
