Position Title:
Part-Time Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Hours:
Approximately 15 hours per week
Schedule:
Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays beginning at 4:00 PM Alternate Fridays beginning at 4:00 PM OR alternate Saturdays in the morning Position Overview A Direct Support Professional (DSP) is being sought to provide community habilitation and supportive services for a young adult. He is a verbal, thoughtful, and creative individual who benefits from structured support, encouragement with independence, and positive community engagement. The DSP will assist him with building independent living skills, socialization, community involvement, and maintaining routines that support his overall well-being and personal goals. About He enjoys interests such as: Star Wars Vintage Legos and Bionicle Transformers Rocky movies Drawing fantasy characters Editing photos and learning through YouTube Walking outdoors and spending time in the community He is creative, empathetic, intelligent, and highly knowledgeable about topics that interest him. He values routine and benefits from patient, respectful, and calm support.
DSP Responsibilities Responsibilities may include:
Supporting independent living skill development, including cooking, cleaning, organization, and daily routines Encouraging participation in community activities and social opportunities Assisting him with building confidence in social situations and friendships Providing emotional support and encouragement during periods of stress or overwhelm Supporting healthy coping strategies and maintaining structure/routine Encouraging exploration of vocational interests, employment readiness, and future independence goals Assisting with medication reminders and promoting independence with medication routines as needed Supporting community outings, recreational activities, and walks Encouraging flexibility with trying new experiences while respecting personal boundaries and preferences Maintaining professional communication with family and team members when appropriate Ensuring a safe and supportive environment at all times Preferred DSP Qualities The ideal DSP should: Be patient, calm, and dependable Have strong communication and interpersonal skills Be comfortable supporting individuals with autism and mental health needs Understand the importance of routine, predictability, and respectful encouragement Be creative and willing to engage in his interests and hobbies Be supportive without being overly directive Be able to redirect gently and provide reassurance when needed Have reliable transportation and willingness to participate in community activities Additional Information No Behavior Support Plan (BSP) or rights restrictions are currently in place. Joey values his independence and also enjoys quiet time at home engaging in preferred activities. Support staff should foster dignity, respect, autonomy, and person-centered supports at all times. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental health needs preferred Valid driver's license preferred Ability to pass required background checks and trainings per agency standards This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships, supporting independence, and helping a young adult work toward long-term personal goals and community inclusion.
