Job Description Holyoke High School Dean Campus seeks a Career Technical Education teacher for our new Early Education and Care program. The instructor will teach students the knowledge, skills, professional expectations, and safety practices needed for success in early childhood education and care settings. The program prepares students to understand child growth and development, create safe and supportive learning environments, develop curriculum, use appropriate teaching practices, engage families, and demonstrate professionalism in the field. The Early Education and Care instructor will provide classroom, laboratory, and applied learning experiences aligned to the Massachusetts Career Technical Education Frameworks, industry-recognized credentials, and program expectations. Students will learn and practice the principles of high-quality early childhood programming, including the fundamentals of child development, theories of early childhood education, teaching methods, and professional standards connected to the field.
The teacher will:
Plan and deliver a competency-based program of study aligned to the Massachusetts Early Education and Care CTE Frameworks, district curriculum expectations, and student needs. Teach occupational knowledge and skills related to child growth and development, responsive interactions, curriculum development, teaching practices, assessment, family engagement, learning environments, and professionalism. Create and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive classroom and applied learning environment. Instruct students in health and safety practices for early education settings, including emergency response, First Aid and CPR, food safety, infection control, supervision, sanitation, medication safety, child protection, and mandated reporting responsibilities. Develop lesson plans, demonstrations, simulations, projects, and applied learning activities that prepare students for success in early education and care settings. Guide students in planning developmentally appropriate activities, observing children, supporting classroom routines, communicating with families, and practicing professional expectations. Prepare students for applicable industry-recognized credentials, including OSHA 10 General Industry, First Aid and CPR, and EEC Certification as Infant Toddler or Preschool Teacher, where applicable. Assess student performance, knowledge, technical skill development, employability skills, and career readiness on a regular basis. Use student performance data to adjust instruction, provide support, and communicate progress to students, families, counselors, administrators, and program partners. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, program expectations, and administrative regulations. Collaborate with school leaders, CTE staff, advisory board members, early education partners, employers, and community organizations to strengthen program quality and student opportunities. Support supervised student teaching, field experiences, work-based learning, and career-connected learning opportunities when appropriate and approved. Attend staff meetings, participate in required professional learning, and continue developing professional competence in both teaching and the Early Education and Care field. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher degree related to the subject matter and skills to be taught. Three years of full-time employment experience directly related to Early Education and Care. Must hold, be eligible for, or be prepared to obtain a Massachusetts Career Technical Teacher License in Early Education and Care, 9-14. Knowledge of early childhood education, child growth and development, developmentally appropriate practice, classroom routines, child supervision, family engagement, and professional responsibilities in early education settings. Knowledge of health and safety expectations in early education settings, including First Aid, CPR, OSHA-related safety practices, emergency procedures, sanitation, infection control, and child protection responsibilities. Ability to develop and deliver competency-based, applied learning experiences aligned to state frameworks, industry expectations, and student needs. Commitment to ensuring academic, technical, and career success for all students. Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution. Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent teamwork skills, and strong organizational skills. Experience working in an urban setting preferred. Experience working with diverse student populations preferred. Skills in managing challenging student behaviors strongly preferred. Bilingual applicants, Spanish, strongly encouraged to apply.
