Primary Purpose:
Title 3 Transition Support Teacher provides transitional support for students entering middle school after leaving a dual language elementary program or entering middle school as a newcomer. The EBSTS Teacher will support all EB students with transitioning to an all English environment and curriculum and provide supplemental support and accelerated instruction to students in the area of language acquisition. The EBSTS supports all EB students in the transition to middle school through course selection, guidance, and instruction that best suits the students' academic needs and goals. The EBSTS Teacher will provide a specialized literacy program with embedded language strategies to support language acquisition. The EBSTS Teacher will utilize the ELPS within their classes and support other teachers in planning lessons to embed strategies within their teaching practices to help EB students be more successful.

The EBSS Teacher evaluates, monitors and documents student progress in English language acquisition for program placement, recommendation of assessments,and ESL program continuation.
Qualifications:
Certified EC - 8 Generalist Certification ESL Certification Master's Degree preferred 3 years teaching experience in English Language Arts and/or Special Education 3 years teaching experience with English learners/ emergent bilinguals A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of EBs' cognitive, linguistic and affective needs, curriculum, at-risk education, instructional technology, and Tier 1 highly effective teaching strategies. A comprehensive understanding of instructional strategies to meet the needs of EBs. Demonstrated competency in the instruction of reading. Strong data analysis skill set, as well as strong organizational, communication, public relations and interpersonal skills. Ability to provide campus level staff development
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Work closely with EB students at the elementary level to help them with course selection as they plan for their transition to middle school Work with counselors to help with course selections for EB students transitioning to middle school from a Dual Language campus Work with elementary campuses to support them with guidance as students transition to middle school Closely monitor students as they transition from Dual Language into a monolingual classroom environment. Track language acquisition through a variety of measurements. Track student progress and create individualized plans for students based on their data that will help accelerate their transition into all English classes. Meet annually with the students to plan courses for upcoming years Meet annually with families to discuss student progress, review goals, and course selection goals Meet with students in 8th grade to discuss a 4-year plan for high school and course selection. Review middle school progress and data. Regular meeting with the EB students' teachers to discuss the transition and progress of the students Work closely with other campus personnel ensure appropriate MTSS is provided to EB students who need additional academic support Assist all EBs to achieve at high levels in core academic subjects. Create personalized plans for EBs needing MTSS and provide recommendations for students who are dual coded as 504 or Special Education Provide language instruction that helps EBs develop proficiency in English while meeting challenging state academic content and student academic achievement standards. Provide high-quality instruction designed to enable EBs to become proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language through the integrated use of second language acquisition methods. Implement instructional accommodations for EBs and collaborate with all staff on accommodations for EBs. Assist campuses to develop and enhance their capacity to provide high-quality instruction designed to enable EBs to become proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language through the integrated use of second language acquisition methods.
