Job Description Recreation Specialist Senior Center will work up to an average of 29 hours a week, Monday through Friday, with some evenings and weekends required. The Recreation Specialist Senior Center will be responsible for coordinating and implementing senior nutrition activities, recruiting and coordinating with senior volunteers, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. This is an hourly, limited term, part-time position dependent upon grant finding and performance offering no supplemental employee benefits other than salary. Essential Job Duties This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing the elderly nutrition program grant at the Senior Center; this position may be responsible for planning events and activities; developing new events/activities; recruiting participants and volunteers, volunteer and participant relations; overseeing program budget expenditures; evaluating program attendance; maintaining records; ensuring grant compliance through submission of grant information daily/weekly/monthly as required; preparing data reports; directs, supervises, and evaluates part-time staff and volunteers; and performs other duties as assigned or required. This position may assist in the kitchen and will be required to hold a Food Managers certificate throughout the duration of the position. May be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, late nights, and holidays.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a non-management part-time position and reports to the Senior Citizens Supervisor Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must have basic computer skills including profiencient skills of Microsoft office including excel and data reporting techniques; knowledge of food service programs and methods in food preparation and serving techniques for large groups; record keeping procedures, ability to accurately count and deposit daily donations, record attendance, services delivered, and volunteer hours; an understanding of the social and emotional needs of the senior citizen population; develop and maintain effective relationships with the volunteers, participants, and staff; be an effective team player; and have excellent interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends; plan and organize activities, possess good communication skills, both written and oral; public speaking skills; follow oral and written instructions; prepare flyers, reports, news releases, and newsletters. Must be bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Graduation, or G.E.D. and a minimum of two years of college, and/or three years experience working with seniors in recreation, social service, or a related field is required. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for educational requirements. Related experience and/or training in planning, organizing activities, and clerical responsibilities is highly desirable. Possession of a First Aid and CPR certificate within 30 days of the start date; possession of a Food Manager certification from an organization qualified by the San Bernardino County Department of Aging and Adult Services- Public Guardian within 30 days of the start date.

Possession of a valid California driver's license and proof of insurability required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting including use of standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle; to visit various City sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, running, throwing, and stooping in the performance of daily activities, including leading recreational activities.
