Position Summary The GED Instructor provides engaging, high-quality instruction that prepares adult learners to successfully earn their General Educational Development (GED) credential. Through meaningful instruction and supportive relationships, the Instructor helps students build the academic skills, confidence, and persistence needed to achieve their educational goals. Working collaboratively with the Director of Adult Education and colleagues, the GED Instructor delivers standards-based instruction aligned with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and GED testing requirements while fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. What You'll Do Instruction & Classroom Leadership Plan and deliver engaging instruction aligned with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS), GED testing requirements, and Adult Education program goals. Develop lesson plans using evidence-based instructional strategies and adult learning principles. Provide whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction based on student needs. Differentiate instruction to support learners with diverse educational backgrounds and learning styles. Integrate instructional technology and digital learning tools into classroom instruction. Monitor student learning through classroom assessments, observations, and ongoing evaluation. Foster a respectful, inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, persistence, and success. Student Support Build positive relationships that encourage student confidence and academic achievement. Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports successful GED completion. Encourage participation in educational opportunities and program activities. Collaborate with staff to connect students with resources that address barriers to learning. Program Responsibilities Maintain accurate attendance, classroom documentation, and student records. Prepare semester student progress reports. Utilize Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to support student learning when applicable. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and organizational initiatives. Qualifications We're looking for an educator who is passionate about helping adult learners achieve their educational goals.
Qualifications include:
Bachelor's degree required. Valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate or eligibility to obtain the 107 Adult Education cross endorsement required. College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) training, including Math 200, required. Experience teaching adult learners and/or preparing students for the GED examination preferred. Knowledge of adult learning principles, differentiated instruction, and GED instructional strategies. Ability to develop engaging lesson plans and deliver effective instruction. Experience assessing student learning and adapting instruction to support student achievement. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, classroom technology, and educational software. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish positive relationships with adult learners from diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
