Program:
Guiding Path Enrichment Center (GPEC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Augusta, GA serving the CSRA through education support and community-based learning. Our Never Too Late program is an Adult Literacy class designed to help adult learners strengthen reading and writing skills in a supportive, respectful environment.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dependable, engaging Adult Literacy Instructor (or strong facilitator) to lead a twice-weekly evening adult literacy class for an 8-week cohort. Curriculum and materials are provided. The instructor will deliver lessons, support adult learners with varying skill levels, and help maintain a safe, structured learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate adult literacy instruction using provided curriculum and materials Create a welcoming, judgment-free classroom culture for adult learners Differentiate instruction to support varying reading/writing levels Track attendance and basic learner progress (simple weekly notes/check-ins) Communicate with program leadership regarding learner needs, barriers, and successes Maintain clear classroom expectations and professionalism during evening sessions Required Qualifications Experience teaching, tutoring, training, mentoring, or facilitating adult learners OR K-12 learners in literacy/ELA Strong communication skills and a supportive, patient teaching style Reliable transportation and consistent attendance for the full 8-week cohort Comfortable working with adult learners, including some who may be justice-impacted Ability to follow an established curriculum and keep sessions on time Preferred Qualifications Georgia-certified educator (not required) Adult education, GED instruction, literacy intervention, or workforce training experience Classroom management experience with diverse adult learners Experience partnering with community organizations Guiding Path Enrichment Center (GPEC) is an equal opportunity organization.
