Job Description

at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois, United States Job Description Adjunct Adult Education Faculty Pool - General Educational Development (GED) Adult Education Faculty appointments are located on Parkland College's Campus in Champaign, Illinois or on-site at locations within District #505 (including Rantoul and Arcola). Adjunct appointments have a salary range of $1,352.00 - 1,525.00 per Equated Contact Hour (ECH) commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applications accepted until positions are filled. We are currently seeking instructors to teach Summer and Fall 2026 courses. Adjunct Faculty teach part-time, advise and mentor students. Hiring needs are dependent on student enrollment and course schedules. Courses available may be during days, evenings, weekends or online. This position is an on-site, part-time appointment covered by the Parkland College Part-Time Faculty collective bargaining unit. Essential Job Functions:
Teach level-appropriate reading, writing, math, and technology to adults. Provides classroom instruction in accordance with the stated philosophy, objectives, and established course outlines of the college. Create and develop lesson plans, teaching materials, and individual learning plans aligned to appropriate Illinois Content Standards. Informs students of course regulations, evaluation procedures, and other information pertinent to the course; prepares an Illinois-Standards-aligned course syllabus for each course and distributes it early in each term. Design instructional activities, select materials, and organize small-group, whole-group, and independent instruction of adequate rigor to support student ability to advance. Monitor and assess student skill development; ensure students are aware of their progress. Integrate technology and digital literacy into instruction as required by Illinois Content Standards. Establish effective instructional routine and classroom management policies. Performs professional duties in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the college. Collaborates with faculty leads and department administration to achieve measurable skill gains. Collect, record, and report student information required for grant reporting. Complete all required program documentation. Complete annual professional development requirements set forth by the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB). Follow all policies and procedures described in the Adult Education Program Manual. Maintains regular office hours to ensure availability for student consultation; provides assistance to students in a timely manner.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in education or related field. Experience with the Adult Education student populations. Experience teaching either English as a Second Language, Reading, or Math at the K-12 or pre-college level. Prospective new hires will successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting. The background check review includes, but is not limited to, exclusionary offenses per the Illinois School Code and Title IV of the Higher Education Act. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of individuals with varied experiences. Experience managing multiple interfacing systems. Ability to learn the Parkland information system and new programs as technology changes. Firm commitment to professional development and self-growth. Maintains all professional credentials required to teach in area of discipline. In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment.
