at Department of Human Services in Jacksonville, Illinois, United States Job Description Position Overview The Illinois for the Visually Impaired is seeking to hire an English Educator to perform highly specialized teaching in English, Literature, Composition, and related content areas for Junior and Senior high school students who are visually impaired. This position aligns instruction to current curriculum and learning standards; uses a variety of instructional strategies integrating technology and current best practices. The incumbent conducts on-going evaluations of assigned student and assists in preparing reports which include data for Individualized Education Plans ( IEP ) including present levels of performance, long range goals, short term objectives and necessary related services. The Educator modifies the curriculum to meet the needs and learning styles of each student and assists in continual development and assessment of a sequential instructional curriculum aligned to state guidelines. The Division is looking to hire a detail-oriented educator with good communication and leadership skills to start the 2026-2027 school year. Essential Functions Serves as an English Educator teaching students with low vision or blindness for the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired ( ISVI ). Conducts on-going evaluations of assigned students. Completes a variety of related documents and reports utilizing software, including, but not limited to, daily attendance, student progress, discipline, and grades. Assists in continual development and assessment of a sequential instructional curriculum aligned to state guidelines. Assists appropriate school staff and parents in providing extra-curricular activities supplemental to classroom education. Supervises the use and care of equipment and supplies. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires possession of a current and valid ISBE -issued Professional Educator License with endorsement as a Learning Behavior Specialist ( LBS -1) prekindergarten through age 22. Preferred Qualifications One (1) year of professional experience working with media used for students who have visual impairments and blindness such as Braille and or other technologies. One (1) year of professional experience utilizing current educational trends, techniques, and best practices. One (1) year of professional experience preparing written documentation related to student performance and education. One (1) year of professional experience using the tools, materials and equipment associated with required coursework. One (1) year of professional experience maintaining patience and tolerance while working with students with a wide range of behaviors. One (1) year of professional experience maintaining effective working relationships with staff, assigned students and parents. Conditions of Employment Must meet Illinois School for the Visually Impaired health and safety requirements. Requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
