  • Full-time YMCA of Greater New Orleans is currently hiring a full-time instructor to join its adult literacy team.
YMCA Education Services provides free programs across the Greater New Orleans region to transform lives through literacy, helping adult learners build the skills they need to reach their goals and fully participate in their communities. The Adult Literacy Instructor will provide classroom instruction, individualized support for students, and data management. Regular duties include developing lesson plans targeting skill gains, monitoring student progress, communicating with current and prospective students, and maintaining accurate records. The Adult Literacy Instructor will teach and support program operations at our learning center located in downtown New Orleans.
Essential responsibilities:
Provide small group instruction in leveled Math and ELA classes (grade level of skills range from K-6) Develop standards-aligned lesson plans using student performance data Leverage online tools with vendor and teacher-created materials to maximize instructional impact Strategize and implement individualized support plans based on student needs Facilitate intake and testing events in compliance with state policies Track and monitor student progress, including attendance hours and skill gains Communicate with current and prospective students Enter and maintain accurate student records in the state database Collaborate to manage program office procedures and recordkeeping Complete required YMCA and adult education program trainings Participate in YMCA activities that support the adult literacy program The YMCA Learning Center (3rd floor of NOPL Main Library, 219 Loyola Ave) is open year-round Monday-Thursday 10AM-5:30PM. Friday hours are 10AM-5PM by appointment.

Qualifications & Skills:
Required Bachelor's degree in any field 3+ years of experience working directly with adults in low-literacy populations Demonstrated commitment to equity and community-centered work, with strong adaptability and interpersonal communication skills Proficiency with online productivity tools (Google Workspace) Preferred 3+ years of experience developing and facilitating lesson plans aligned to educational standards, preferably College and Career Readiness Standards Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities or other learning exceptionalities Working knowledge of accessibility in learning design Strong organizational and administrative skills, with experience managing tasks in an office or hybrid environment Comfort leveraging AI tools
