POSITION OVERVIEW
The Student Support Specialist for Edmentum and Online Learning resides in the Department of Adult Education. The mission of BPS Adult Education is to provide a variety of flexible programs to ensure that Boston residents have access to quality instruction, job training, and college and career advising. We honor the diversity of our students by promoting equity and inclusion. BPS Adult Education annually serves about 800 adult students who want to learn English, participate in vocational training, improve their academic level, and/or graduate from high school. Day and evening, as well as in-person, online, and virtual programs, are offered. The Student Support Edmentum and Online Learning Specialist is a key member of the Student Support Team. Working closely with the Recruitment and Placement, Retention, and Enrollment Specialist and Guidance Counselor to ensure that students are enrolled in classes that meet their diverse academic, scheduling, and personal needs.

Edmentum and Online will work closely with all members of the school community: students, teachers, and administrators.

Edmentum and Online Learning supports synchronous and asynchronous instruction on the Edmentum and online platforms, monitors student pacing, provides personalized support to ensure academic progress and success, and offers technical assistance as needed.

Edmentum and Online Learning Specialist will work closely with all members of the school community: students, teachers, and administrators.

Edmentum and Online Learning Specialist works a flexible schedule and should be available in the evenings and on weekends. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written; have excellent judgment; and be able to manage a fast-paced, multi-faceted workload with attention to detail. This individual should be a self-starter who can prioritize and execute multiple tasks and projects.
The Student Support:
Edmentum and Online Learning Specialist will be expected to maintain confidentiality and to exhibit discretion and professionalism in all activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee Edmentum and online learning activities for day and evening programs. Responsible for creating and scheduling orientation sessions for all students in Edmentum and online classes. Track student progress, manage pacing, and intervene with students who are struggling or falling behind. Provide synchronous (live) and asynchronous one-on-one support to help students meet academic goals. Facilitate student engagement with their plan. Maintain regular communication with students via messaging, phone, or email. Enter attendance and other required data in the Adult Ed SIS and State database. Create and manage an attendance incentive program for students in Edmentum and online classes. Maintain accurate records of student progress and intervention plans, logging all communication in the Adult Ed SIS and State database. Participate in department meetings and appropriate professional development activities. Establish a structured, positive, and inspiring learning environment. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a rigorous, joyful, and safe environment for students and staff. Work collaboratively with school leaders to ensure effective communications with teachers, staff, and students. Assist in establishing and maintaining the goals, philosophy, and policies of BPS Adult Education. Communicate effectively with counselors, teachers, and program administrator(s) on student and program issues. Student Data Management & Support Assist with data entry of student records as necessary. Assist the Recruitment Enrollment and Placement Specialist with registration, information, and assessment sessions. Assist with welcome and orientation sessions for morning and evening students enrolled in Adult Education. Participate in professional development to become and stay certified in all DESE-required adult education tests: MAPT, TABE, and Best-Plus. Collaborate and assist the LACES Specialist in the development of yearly testing of DESE-required adult education tests: MAPT, TABE, and Best-Plus. Assist the Student Support Team in ensuring that all required students are scheduled to take pre- and post-tests: MAPT, TABE, and Best-Plus. Support DESE follow-ups quarterly. Perform other miscellaneous department and/or BPS Adult Education duties as deemed appropriate by the Director.
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
Strong commitment to the Department of Adult Education's mission, values, and educational model Two years of relevant successful experience in an adult education setting. Experience working with the adult learner population as well as the 16 - 21-year-old adult population Attention to detail to ensure that accurate records are maintained and shared. Strong digital literacy skills and the ability to learn new technology. Ability to create meaningful relationships with a diverse student population. Ability to manage and prioritize tasks across multiple projects. Ability to interpret and present data for internal and external audiences. Attention to detail to ensure that accurate records are maintained and shared. Excellent computer skills, including MS Office suite, Google Apps, and video conferencing. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to effectively collaborate with students, teachers, and administrators. Excellent organizational, time management, oral, and written communication skills in English. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments, use judgment and initiative to accomplish results, work under pressure, and complete tasks in an accurate and timely manner. An understanding of and commitment to gain a greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education and opportunities for adult learners. Current authorization to work in the United States.
QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED
BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS's official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali. Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools.
TERMS:
Managerial Tier B Please refer to www.bostonpublicschools.org/ohc (under "Employee Benefits and Policies") for more information on salary and compensation. Salaries are listed by Unions and Grade/Step.
NOTE:
School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223-day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or school leader of the school. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
