Job Description
Position Summary:
The Adult Education Instructor is responsible for designing and delivering instructional programs that help adult learners improve their literacy, numeracy, English language proficiency, and career readiness. The instructor fosters a supportive learning environment, adapts teaching methods to accommodate diverse student needs, and prepares learners for GED/HiSET completion, workforce training, or further academic pursuits.Essential Functions and Duties:
Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to adult learners in subjects such as English, math, reading, writing, GED/HiSET preparation, or ESL, while developing instructional materials aligned with state and institutional standards. Utilize technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning. Responsibilities also include assessing students' learning levels and goals, tracking progress, and providing individualized support to ensure success. Additionally, the instructor will maintain accurate attendance records, submit class reports, and participate in 20 hours of DESE approved professional development to obtain and maintain AEL Certification. Collaboration with college staff, workforce development partners, and local organizations is essential to connect students with career and academic opportunities. The instructor will also engage in outreach efforts to promote the program and help students access college services and job placement.Qualifications:
Experience— teaching experience, preferable in adult education, ESL, literacy programs. Experience working with diverse populations, including ESL learners, at-risk students, or individuals with disabilities. Education— Bachelor Degree from accredited four-year institution Needed Skills— excellent communication skills, proficiency in instructional technology and general computer skills, organized, multi-tasker, accepting of diversity, ability to maintain student private records, and a life-long learner. Must be able to obtain FBI Fingerprint/Background clearance, LACES, TABE, CASAS, and other required certification.Physical Requirements:
Work involves sedentary to light work in office setting and able to lift up to 30 pounds. Employee accommodations for disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.Standard Work Schedule:
Minimum of 9 hours per week maximum of 17 hours per week, Monday through Friday. May include evening hours. Workshop/training may include weekends.Travel Requirements :
Workshop/training may require travel, which may include overnight travel.Salary Range:
$19.00 Per Hour Completed applications will include SFCC application, cover letter, resume and if applicable transcripts. Employment will require a criminal background check at College expense. Preference is given to Missouri residents.AA Statement:
