General Description of Position Under the general direction and supervision of the Adult Education Director, the Adult Education/ESL Assistant Director will serve as the day-to-day operational manager for the ESL program.
Responsibilities will include:
building and staffing schedules; facilitating the intake & onboarding of new students; hiring, training, observing/evaluating, and supporting adjunct instructors; determining professional development needs of instructors and staff; making rmendations for hiring staff, and then assisting with onboarding, training, and supervision of staff; offering/facilitating professional development; addressing student concernsplaints; developing/selecting curriculum coordinating the assessment of students and reporting of student data; adhering to state, federal, and college policies;municatingpliance requirements to staff; marketing program. This is a full-time, regular position. Essential Functions Build and Staff Schedules Determine all aspects of instructional delivery: develop and submit schedules for orientations, classes, learning labs, and pre-and post-testing that meet program and student needs; ensure an appropriate number of sections are offered based on course demand; reserve classrooms/facilities; assign instructors to scheduled classes; provide updated schedules when t are changes. Hire and Supervise Adjunct Faculty Determine instructional staffing needs;municate with Human Resources about advertising and hiring processes; review adjunct pool regularly andmunicate with applicants; interview potential candidates; onboard and train new instructors; observe and evaluate annually; ensure instructorpliance with grant and college policies and procedures; ensure faculty members have the resources they need to teach successfully; monitor and disseminate class performance data; address studentplaints/faculty issues with students; verify and sign time sheets for instructors and staff inpliance with SCC Payroll deadlines. Supervise Other Program Staff Assist with the hiring process and make rmendations to hire other program staff; assist with onboarding/training of new staff; evaluate staff. Determine and Deliver on Professional Development Needs of Staff Determine professional development needs of staff and ESL Adjunct Faculty;anize/facilitate professional development training. Develop/Select Curriculum In cooperation with the Director and other staff and faculty, develop and/or select curriculum/educational materials. Facilitate New Student Intakes Assist withpleting student intakes for the program; coordinate the process forpletion of the enrollment and intake, Orientation, onboarding process, and career pathways. Strengthen educational supports and opportunities for students (e.g., pathways, advising, workshops, trainings, retention efforts). Assist with Resource Development Assist in writing and managing grants as assigned;municate and collaborate regarding funding opportunities. Assist with Marketing and Public Relations Assist in planning and development of promotional material; represent the program atmunity and College events. Assist in recruitment andmunity education for the program and the services provided by the program and the college. Serve as a Member of the Adult Education Leadership Team Attend meetings as scheduled; contribute to meetings in constructive ways;municate regularly and respectfully with supervisor and others on the leadership team. Set an example of professionalism and teamwork for other employees in the program. Promote a Culture of Belonging Support and promote an environment of belonging w all students, faculty members, and college employees feel weed, valued, and empowered to contribute. Foster amunity w each individual and their varied perspectives enrich the educational experience and create a safe and respectful environment. Support the College's policies and programming related to access, fair employment, and equal opportunities for all. Marginal Functions Inmunication and cooperation with the Director, serve as a liaison between the college andmunity-based agencies andanizations. Inmunication and cooperation with the Director, serve as a liaison between Adult Education and other SCC departments, services, and programs. Assist in maintaining inventory. Perform other related duties within the division/program as assigned. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge and experience working with grant-funded programs, fund development (grant writing), and/or grant reporting. Familiarity with distance and hybrid learning. Ability to develop and schedule program activities. Ability toanize group activities. Ability to use aputer and Microsoft Office software. Ability to work andmunicate with diverse groups of students, staff, andmunity partners. Ability tomunicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone. Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable amodation, using some otherbination of skills and abilities. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education or related field. Two (2) years of work experience in coordination, teaching, management, and leadership in Adult Education/ESL or related field. Demonstrated experience supervising staff/faculty. Demonstrated professional experience with grants, data management systems, and budgets. Demonstrated experience working with non-native English language learners. Desired Qualifications Master's degree in Education or related field. More than two years working in Adult Education/ESL. Ability tomunicate in a language in addition to English. Experience with project management. Salary $49,837 per year (2025-2026 rate) Benefits SCC BEN Dollars -Eligible Employees:
Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee's paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for ie and employment taxes, but not subject to the College's contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan - Group Retirement Account (GRA). Schedule Normal working hours for this full-time regular position are scheduled between 7:00 a.m.and 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, requiring a minimum of a 40-hour work week, based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek. This position involves evening sessions and some weekend responsibilities.
