Grant-funded, time-limited position Position Overview Lunch Break is seeking a part-time Digital Literacy Specialist to support and grow our Life Skills Computer Literacy Program. This is a grant-funded, time-limited position of an average of four (4) months designed to help participants build the digital skills needed to access resources, pursue employment opportunities, communicate with confidence, and navigate daily life in an increasingly online world. The Digital Leteracy Specialist will report to the Life Skills Manager and will be responsible for developing and teaching computer literacy classes for adult learners at varying beginner skill levels, managing the computer lab schedule, and providing hands-on support to participants using technology. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, organized, comfortable with technology, and committed to helping people build confidence in a welcoming and respectful learning environment. This is a grant-funded, time-limited position. Continuation of the role will depend on program needs and available funding. Key Responsibilities Computer Literacy Instruction
  • Develop and deliver computer literacy classes and learning activities that support participants with varying levels of technology experience.
  • Create clear lesson plans and learning materials that are practical, accessible, and easy for participants to follow.
  • Provide instruction and support that helps participants build practical digital skills for everyday tasks, communication, employment, and access to resources.
  • Support participants with varying levels of comfort, experience, and confidence using technology.
  • Foster a low-stress, encouraging classroom environment that promotes learning, independence, and confidence. Program Coordination and Participant Support
  • Help assess participant skill levels and guide them into the appropriate class or support option.
  • Track attendance, participation, progress, and outcomes to support grant reporting and program evaluation.
  • Communicate with Life Skills staff regarding participant needs, class progress, scheduling, and program improvements.
  • Identify barriers participants may face in accessing or using technology and help connect them with appropriate support.
  • Support participants in applying digital skills to real-life needs, such as job searches, online applications, benefits access, communication, and basic document creation. Computer Lab Operations
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the computer lab, including maintaining an organized, welcoming, and productive space.
  • Coordinate computer lab access, balancing scheduled classes with open lab time for independent participant use.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting and guidance to participants during open lab hours.
  • Monitor equipment needs and communicate technology issues to the appropriate staff or IT support.
  • Help maintain a respectful and safe environment for all participants using the computer lab. Qualifications
  • Experience in Computer literacy teaching, training, coaching, tutoring, or providing direct support to adult learners.
  • Comfort using computers, internet tools, email, Google Workspace or Microsoft Office, and common online platforms.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technology in a clear, patient, and approachable way.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of digital literacy.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage schedules, track participation, and maintain basic program records.
  • Commitment to Lunch Break's mission and to serving all participants with dignity, compassion, and respect. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with adult education, workforce development, nonprofit programs, social services, digital literacy, or community-based education.
  • Experience developing lesson plans, training materials, or structured curriculum.
  • Bilingual skills, especially Spanish, are a plus.
  • Familiarity with grant-funded program tracking or outcome reporting.
  • Experience supporting individuals with limited access to technology or limited experience using digital tools.
Physical Requirements:
  • Physical stamina, able to work long hours on one's feet.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 50 lbs.

Pay:
$30.00 - $34.00 per hour Application Question(s): This is a temporary part-time position. Are you accepting of that? The pay rate is $30-$34 depending on the experience. Are you agreeable to that?
